First Sunday of Christmas

9:30 a.m.  - Pajama Sunday Worship Service
Grace to you, and peace...

The joy of Christmas is nearly here.
I am deeply grateful for a congregation that relishes in sacred joy, makes space for muddling through, and seeks to offer welcome, generosity, and peace.

We gather on Tuesday evening for our Christmas Eve Service of Lessons and Carols at 5 p.m.
A few reminders:
  • We will receive a special offering for the Presbyterian Home for Children.
  • Arriving early is always a good idea on Christmas Eve.
  • If you are able to march from Edgewood Elementary School, you are invited to park there and save spaces for those who need the shorter walk.
The rest of the week will be fairly quiet around here, with no church events scheduled until Sunday.
I'm supposed to remind you that any gifts to the church must be received or postmarked by December 31st to be credited for 2019. The church office will be open from 10 a.m. to noon on New Year's Eve.

Sunday, December 29th, is not only the First Sunday of Christmas...it's Pajama Sunday! We worship God through song and prayer and scripture and the celebration of the Lord's Supper -- we just do it all in our pjs. (Pajamas are not required, of course, but you'll look a bit odd -- at least once you enter the sanctuary.) This service is very relaxed, with extra hymns and a fun surprise or two. We hope you'll join us for the holy fun.

I sign off with a prayer request:
Sid Burgess was taken to UAB late Sunday afternoon. I spent the evening with him and Melissa and Grace and Hilda as the medical team tried to figure out what's up. He's feeling much better today and texting up a storm. The family asks that you let him and them rest -- so no visitors at this time, please -- but feel free to bug him by email or text message! I give deepest thanks for access to healthcare, a tenacious and loving family for Sid, and for the prayers of this congregation that loves him so much.

Peace be with you,
Joe
