Meals
Missouri TSA will provide lunch during the business meeting scheduled on Monday, March 30 at 12:00 pm.
Voting Delegates
Last year during the Delegate Business Session, the delegates voted to allow every registered member at the State Championships conference in good standing to serve as a voting delegate. No individual voting delegate may cast more than one vote (one body, one vote). Therefore, during the business session, every chapter needs to send all their registered members at the State Championship Conference to the Delegate Business Session Meeting. Lunch will be provided for all conference registrants during this time.  Lunch will be served from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm, but the business meeting will be from 12:30pm - 2:00pm.
Election Process
State Officers shall be elected in three separate elections.  The first election is for the office of president with each delegate casting one vote. The second election is for the remaining five nationally recognized offices (Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Reporter, and Sergeant-at-Arms). And the third election is for the four (4) Regional Vice-Presidents (Northeast, Northwest, Southeast and Southwest).
  • First election will be held to select the Missouri TSA President.  A majority vote is required to elect the President.  If there are more than two candidates for President and a majority is not reached on the first ballot, the candidate receiving the lowest number of votes shall be dropped and a second ballot vote will be taken.  If a majority is not reached, the process will be repeated until a majority is reached.
  • Second, after the presidential election has been held, all unsuccessful presidential candidates and other candidates (the officer pool) will be submitted to the delegates for election of the other five nationally recognized offices (Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Reporter and Sergeant-At-Arms).  Each delegate may vote for five separate candidates. A tie for any position among the five candidates will be decided by a runoff election between the tying candidates. The candidate who is unsuccessful in the run-off will get to choose their office. The five candidates with the top number of votes will be named the at-large state officers.
  • The remaining candidates will be eligible to run for the region vice president offices (Northeast, Northwest, Southeast and Southwest).  Candidates for the Regional Offices must have submitted a State Officer Candidate Application and went through the State Officer Screening Process.  Each delegate will cast one vote for a candidate. The candidate with the most votes will be allowed to choose which office in which he or she will serve, followed by the second place candidate, the third place candidate and forth place candidate.  The winning four candidates will become the Regional Vice-Presidents.
Amendment to the Student Bylaws, adopted April 15, 2019.

It is vital that chapters send their delegates to the “Delegate Business Session” so that a quorum can be established and the association can conduct their business.  This is an important part of the students learning and practicing leadership skills.
Qualifications of State Officer Candidates
Qualifications and applications for Officer Candidates have been posted on the Missouri TSA website. You can also find the 2020-2021 State Officer Candidate Packet below. You are encouraged to review the materials with your members before making the decision to run for an office.

Dress Code
The State Championships Conference is an excellent opportunity for members to convey to others the positive, professional image of TSA. TSA official dress is always appropriate and STRONGLY encouraged. This year, no one will be allowed into any of the General Sessions without appropriate attire. Appropriate dress includes black shoes, gray slacks, official TSA blue dress shirt, red ties, for males. Black shoes, gray skirts, or dress pants, official TSA blue dress blouse, for females. A polo shirt will be provided for all registered attendees. White dress shirts and blouses are still an option but will incur a 10-point clothing penalty during the competitive events. Jeans, shorts, and T-shirts are not appropriate attire. Night wear (pajamas) should not be worn outside of your hotel room. Shoes should be worn at all times. Appropriate dress is a reflection on your school and of the state association; therefore, it is very important to show that our members are leaders. Please note, official dress for the National TSA Conference allows only the official TSA blue dress shirt.

National Service Project

This year, Missouri TSA is challenging the local chapters to surpass last year’s contributions, so please encourage your students to come up with some fun activities that will help bring awareness.

This year there were updates to the Middle School Competitive Events. Three new competitive events were added to Middle School.  These include: Cybersecurity, Data Science and Analytics, and Foundation of Information Technology (FIT).  Descriptions of these events can be found on the National TSA website.

Intent to Compete
As we attempt to put together a schedule for the Competitive Events, we are running into the issue of estimating the time each competitive event will take without knowing how many competitors will be in each event.  Each year, the numbers in each event have fluctuated significantly that in some events we underestimate the time it takes to run events.  As a result, the schedule constantly changes.  By you providing us with an estimated number of competitors you plan on having in each event, it will help us plan the schedule better. The deadline for submitting the Intent to Compete is January 10, 2020. Please follow the Google Docs link provided for the high school and share with us your estimated number. The middle school form will be coming soon.

Courtesy Corps
Missouri TSA relies heavily on the kindness of volunteers to help our State Championships run smoothly. This army of volunteers works to set up, help out, and tear down after the events are over. With this in mind, we ask that advisors encourage their students to register as courtesy participants for the 2020 Missouri TSA State Championships. Students will be assigned in shifts of two hours that is arranged around their competition schedules. No student will miss their competitive event as a result of serving. Students who take on this challenge to serve will enhance their communication, leadership skills, organizational, and time management skills. At the end of their two-hour (2) assignment, students will be eligible to receive a certificate that recognizes their service that they could use towards the graduation service hour requirement.

Students will be expected to assist with contests, be runners, timekeepers, assist with setup and breakdown of the contest areas, and similar conference activities.

Once again, Missouri TSA depends on volunteers for a successful State Championships Conference, and we truly can’t do it without the support and commitment our Courtesy Corp members and volunteers!

Advisors, please encourage your students to volunteer at the all the Missouri TSA State Events. Their assistance is always needed.
