Waitangi Day commemorates the first signing of New Zealand’s founding document – the Treaty of Waitangi in 1840.
Onerahi Waitangi Day festival
WINGS will be participating in the Onerahi Waitangi Day event at Onerahi Sherwood Park on 6 February. The festival will feature music, entertainers, community stalls, markets, food and more. Come and join us for a day of fun and celebrations!
Waitangi
Māori cultural performances, speeches from Māori and Pakeha (European) dignitaries, and a naval salute are all part of the official Waitangi Day celebrations at Waitangi. Various activities and events are held at the Waitangi Treaty Grounds. It’s a day that bubbles with ceremonies, music, sports and fun. Waitangi Day itself has always involved performances and parades from the Royal New Zealand Navy and local cultural groups.
If you are interested in going to Waitangi for the Waitangi Day celebrations, please let us know by texting your name and how many people, including husbands/partners/children, will be attending to Laura on 022 489 5967 and, as we’ll be carpooling, whether you’ll be able to offer a lift or require a lift. It is truly an event worthwhile attending.

BLUE SHEETS AND GREEN SOCKS AVAILABLE!
We are all into recycling these days and I have these fabulous blue sheets that are used once, then they are thrown away. I work at Kensington Hospital and we have a lot of these. We use them when patients come out of the theatre to help transfer/move them. They are very strong, and great to use around the house e.g great for lining your car, moving soil/plants around the garden, decorating and many many more uses. I also take them to the dog pound.
I also have green socks, which are given to patients as they are anti-slip. They are only worn for a very short time and then discarded. I take them home, wash them and take to the hospice shop for resale.
I also am able to get these small glass jars. They are very useful for storing spices in or for arts and crafts. The jars do come with a metal edge, which will need removing (use a flat head screwdriver and be aware that the metal is sharp). Once removed it leaves a rubber stopper. The bottles have had liquid Paracetamol in so please do wash out jars thoroughly before putting anything edible in.
If any of you can use these items, please contact me at the contact details given below. I do prefer email.
