Submit feedback on new rubrics for READ Act instructional programming

The Preschool through Third Grade office at CDE is seeking feedback on the rubrics that will be used for the approval of instructional programming for core, supplemental and intervention under the READ Act.

A brief webinar will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 19, which will provide information about the rubric and how to provide feedback online. Register via Zoom

Proposals open for READ Act teacher training

CDE is soliciting competitive, responsive proposals from experienced organizations to provide a professional development product on evidence-based practices in teaching reading that can be used to provide training to kindergarten, first-, second-, and third-grade teachers throughout the state of Colorado as authorized in Senate Bill 19-199.

This Request for Proposal (RFP) seeks proposals for an in-person professional development product and an online professional development product, which may be provided by the same vendor or by two separate vendors.

** Attend a webinar on Early Literacy Assessment Tool 2020-21

On Monday, Jan. 6, CDE will begin accepting applications from applicants who submitted a letter of intent in fall 2019 for the Early Literacy Assessment Tool (ELAT) Project.

The ELAT is designed to assist teachers in meeting READ Act assessment requirements. The online tool will allow teachers to obtain real-time assessments of the reading skill levels of students enrolled in grades K-3. Based on assessment results, the online tool will generate intervention plans and materials to support students.

Participating local education agencies (LEAs) will select Amplify or Istation. LEAs will receive software to use the chosen assessment. Districts will be responsible for providing hardware.

Applications are due Friday, Jan. 31. An application training webinar will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 9. Register via Zoom.

CDE seeks vendor for dyslexia pilot program

CDE is seeking proposals from organizations to develop a dyslexia pilot program.

The chosen contractor will develop identification processes as well as intervention strategies to support students enrolled in kindergarten through third grade who may have dyslexia.

Apply to take part in equity training

The application for the professional learning series Equity for Teachers and Students: Investigating Systemic Racism to Act for Equity in Our Schools is open.

Training consists of three all-day sessions where teams will be asked to examine the roots of racism as well as the current-day manifestations in government and education policy and practice.  The sessions will be facilitated by The Gemini Group, LLC, a Colorado-based organization.

Colorado Educator Loan Forgiveness Program now accepting applications

Applications for the 2019-20 Colorado Educator Loan Forgiveness Program are due by Friday, Feb. 21.

Program participants will be eligible for an annual payment of up to $5,000 towards a qualified loan balance. Participants may be eligible for an annual payment for up to five years.

The Colorado Department of Higher Education (CDHE) is authorized to accept up to 100 new program participants each year through 2028, subject to available appropriations. If more than 100 eligible applications are received, a random lottery draw will be used to determine program participants, with selections covering all regions of the state.

Present at the 2020 CLDE Academy

The 2020 Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education (CLDE) Academy is scheduled for Thursday, May 7. This is an annual opportunity to network with colleagues and share innovative, effective practices for Colorado English learners.

CLDE Academy sessions will be presented throughout the day, allowing participants to attend and earn professional development credit hours.

Applications to present a session can be found on the CLDE homepage and are due by Monday, March 2.

2019-20 Post-Award Revision System open

The 2019-20 Post-Award Revision (PAR) system is open for revisions to activities and budgets approved through the 2019-20 Consolidated Applications.

Review guidance regarding the 2019-20 PAR Process prior to submitting any revision requests to CDE. The PAR system will be available through Wednesday, April 30. Once revisions have been submitted through the Consolidated Application, your regional contact will review and respond with approval or follow-up questions within two weeks.

Applications open soon for USDA National School Lunch Program Equipment Assistance Grant

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) will soon accept applications for the Food and Nutrition Service Equipment Assistance Grant. Eligible School Fund Authorities (SFAs) participating in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) are encouraged to apply.

These funds will allow SFAs to purchase equipment to improve quality and safety of school meals, overall energy efficiency and participation in the NSLP or School Breakfast Program (SBP).

An application training webinar will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 14. The link to register will be provided in the January Dish Newsletter.

If interested in applying for this funding opportunity, submit the Intent to Apply via Survey Monkey by Wednesday, Jan. 15. Applications will be due Tuesday, Feb. 11.

Application process for School Justice Partnership Innovation Grant

The Colorado Department of Law is preparing to release a Request for Applications to support new programs that address School Justice Partnerships, sometimes referred to as the school-to-prison pipeline.

Funds will support entities starting and develop innovative programming to reduce the level of youth incarceration in Colorado, develop alternatives to practices that lead to criminal records, develop programming that ensures a safe learning environment and develop practices to ensure equitable application of school discipline. Grants are anticipated to go to four to five organizations, each grant in the amount of $50,000 per year for two-years, with a possible extension to fund a third year.

Apply for the Expelled and At-Risk Student Services Grant

A request for applications (RFA) is open for the Expelled and At-Risk Student Services (EARSS) program. Awardees will be granted for four years, from the 2020-21 through the 2023-24 state fiscal years. Approximately $1.9 million is available for this funding opportunity.

The purpose of the EARSS Grant is to provide educational services and supportive intervention services to students who are expelled, at risk of expulsion and truant.

Eligible applicants include school districts, BOCES, alternative schools within a school district, charter schools, facility schools and non-public, non-parochial schools working through agreements to serve public school EARSS students.

The deadline to apply is Thursday, March 12. An information webinar is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 15.
