December 2019 Newsletter
Hello and welcome to our last newsletter for 2019!

Our WATEC delegation in front of a 2,000-year-old aqueduct system in Israel

As we enter the new decade, we look forward to strengthening the sustainability of our Multi-Stakeholder Platforms (MSPs), expanding into new geographies and exploring city-based MSPs, and connecting with similar platforms.

Our team is incredibly humbled by the opportunity to work with such brave champions in the public, private, civil society, and academic sectors, which has enabled us to leverage nearly US$ 889 million in co-financing since the start of the program. This has led to the implementation of projects and to accelerated impact on the ground in many areas of our work – especially in our strategic priorities of Transforming Value Chains, Promoting Circular Economies Through Wastewater Treatment and Reuse, and Water Security and Resilience Planning. Our sincerest thanks to our partners and friends who have helped achieve all of this. For more on the country-level progress we've made in the past year, I invite you to read our newly-released Annual Report.

While I was just recently in Israel to participate in WATEC (Water Technology and Environment Control) alongside our partners from Maharashtra, Karnataka, Vietnam, and Peru, my thoughts still also turn gratefully to the 2030 WRG Peru team and partners who made it possible for our Governing Council (GC) Co-Chairs Laura Tuck and Paul Bulcke as well as our esteemed Global Steering Board members to visit the 2030 WRG Peru MSP. This field visit facilitated an exchange of lessons learned from our work in Peru in the past 5 years. I am also thankful for the opportunity to have met GC members earlier in September in New York City, where we discussed recent developments and future priorities. I appreciate everything that all of you have done for our mission, and I admire and have so much gratitude for your unwavering commitment to sustainable water resources management and improved water governance.

Finally, I hope you like our newsletter's updated look and new name, which is intended to highlight the catalytic nature of our work. Please feel free to let us know how we can continue improving, and stay in the loop by following us on Twitter.

Warm wishes,

Karin Krchnak

To Revitalize Urban Rivers, We Must First Change the Way We Look at Them
Urban watercourses are often seen as having to be tamed or exploited for urban development. An alternative view is that urban rivers can enhance environmental quality, urban landscape, and quality of life. As such, the 2030 WRG in Brazil is championing the revitalization of the Anhanguera creek in São Paulo. If successful, this initiative could help change prevailing views of urban watercourses in São Paulo and serve as an example for other cities. Read more >>
