2019 Award Week
Highlights of the 2019 Right Livelihood Award Week
|
|
This year, the Award Week programme took place from 25 November to 6 December, covering 12 days of events and high-level meetings for the Right Livelihood Award Laureates in Berlin, Zurich, Geneva and Stockholm.
It culminated with the Award Presentation at Cirkus, in Stockholm on 4 December, where over 1200 people came together to celebrate the achievements of the Laureates. The evening was not just a celebration of the new awardees; it was also a reunion of many previous ones, including Amy Goodman (2008), Edward Snowden (2014), Yetnebersh Nigussie (2017) on stage, as well as many more in the audience.
As the curtain closed, we left inspired by the words and wisdom of the Laureates, and uplifted by the performances of José González, Ane Brun, Miriam Bryant, with the accompaniment of a sinfonietta conducted by Hans Ek.
Our warmest congratulations once again to the 2019 Laureates: Aminatou Haidar, Guo Jianmei, Greta Thunberg, and Davi Kopenawa/ Hutukara Yanomami Association!

Messages from the 2019 Laureates
|
|
Hailing from different continents of the world, the 2019 Laureates are united by a common fight: justice for all.
Whether it's Aminatou Haidar's peaceful campaigning for the freedom of the Sahrawi people, or Guo Jianmei's legal work advancing women's rights in China; Davi Kopenawa's advocacy for indigenous rights in the Amazon rainforest, or Greta Thunberg's climate activism, the Laureates are calling for justice for the disadvantaged and the vulnerable.
Here are their messages to global citizens around the world:
As Greta Thunberg was set to participate in the 2019 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP25) in Spain, she was instead represented by activists from Fridays For Future Sweden.
Fellow Laureate Guo Jianmei was also not able to attend the Award Presentation in person. She was represented by Karen Tse of International Bridges to Justice.
