Deadline to Enroll for Coverage at HealthCare.gov Extended Until 3 a.m. on Dec. 18

The opportunity to get health insurance through the federal marketplace has been extended until 3 a.m. on Dec. 18. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services reopened the 2020 enrollment period on Monday. North Carolinians are encouraged to log on to HealthCare.gov as soon as possible to sign up for 2020 health insurance before the new deadline.

DHHS Expanding Outpatient Treatment Options at Walter B. Jones Center

The new program provides outpatient treatment for adults with opioid use disorder and offers Medication Assisted Treatment, which helps ease the symptoms of withdrawal. The Walter B. Jones Center serves eastern North Carolina and will be the first outpatient service line for the DHHS Alcohol and Drug Abuse Treatment Centers.


 

Adaptations Bring Joy of Toys to Children with Disabilities

A simple battery interrupter assembled by Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services intern Sarah Gachuz is bringing joy to children with disabilities who can now activate battery-operated toys that previously posed a challenge for them to turn on and off.

DCDEE Seeks Director

DHHS is seeking a director for the Division of Child Development and Early Education. The position requires knowledge of the development and delivery of comprehensive early care and education services and the ability to direct strategic initiatives, which address root causes of inequities in access, reduce barriers to services, and enrich systems that contribute to the well-being of young children and families. Tom Mitchell, Chief of the NC Office of Emergency Medical Services, received a lifetime membership in the NC Association of Rescue & EMS; Stephanie Gilliam, Chief of the Mental Health Licensure & Certification Section of the Division of Health Service Regulation, recently received the State Leadership Award from Benchmarks; Dr. Sarah Tomlinson, the State Dental Director and the Oral Health Section Chief at the Division of Public Health, has been elected the Section Councilor for the American Public Health Association; and more.

DHHS Employees Gather Hundreds of Gifts for Toys for Tots

DHHS employees participated in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve’s 72nd annual Toys for Tots drive this year, gathering hundreds of toys for children in the community who may not otherwise receive a Christmas gift.
