December zooms in...

December news from Sherry D. Ramsey

My head is spinning as I realize another year is drawing to a close...this one flew by so quickly! Did I write? What did I write? I'd better think about this for a later section of this newsletter...

A few last new things to round out the year

Late in the year I delved into writing some RPG content. I participated in the RPG Writer Workshop, which was a great help in bringing an adventure I'd run at my own table to a format I could share with others. That's "Rescuing the Rescuers," an adventure compatible with 5th edition D&D game rules. It was a lot of fun when we played it, so I hope others will enjoy it, too!

The other item, "Hooks & Histories," is a character backstory building resource (because who builds more characters than writers? Am I right?). It includes backstories and roleplaying mechanics for thirteen different types of character backgrounds, and I'm currently at work on a second volume. They're a lot of fun to write!

Both are available at DriveThruRPG for just a couple of dollars each, so if you're an RPGer or know one who'd like one of these for Christmas, check them out!

Holiday Ideas

If you have any young readers on your list, don't forget about Beacon and Other Stories and also Planet Fleep! Hit the covers and choose the link to your favourite retailer!

Either of these books would make a great holiday gift for that adventure-loving reader on your list!

And here's that freebie I promised! My holiday tale, "Subordinate Clauses," featuring Acacia and Oliver from my Olympia Investigations series. Get your copy in either epub or mobi (Kindle) format. Enjoy!

At My Desk - 2019 Roundup

This year was a bit of a struggle in terms of writing--I won't say I had a block, but I definitely suffered from some burnout. I didn't have a good consistent writing habit for much of the year. I think this happens to many writers from time to time, so I'm not going to obssess about it, just hope that the coming year will be better.

And I did accomplish some things. I wrote "THE END" of a novel I've been working on for quite a while, and I'm almost through revisions on it--and the contract is signed! I started a new novel and made good progress. I turned the counter to over a cumulative 1,000,000 words written during years of National Novel Writing Months (!). I wrote and sold some new short fiction, published a new novelette, and dipped into writing RPG game resources and content. So I guess I can't complain too much, can I?

The first few months of 2020 might not be great for fiction writing as I'm teaching a university class for the first time, and I don't know how much time that will demand. However, I'll keep plugging away, because all these characters, you know? They just won't stay quiet for long.
