VBS4 - Training Made Easier, Faster, Global.
BISim unveiled VBS4, our new whole-earth virtual desktop trainer and simulation host, at I/ITSEC 2019. VBS4, offers a massive step-change in modularity, openness and ease-of-use as well as the performance and terrain-enhancing capability of BISim’s new engine, VBS Blue. VBS4’s new workflow and capabilities enable users to start training faster, make edits and updates to training scenarios and terrains with greater ease and collaboration, and simulate training scenarios anywhere on the virtual Earth.
At I/ITSEC, we also announced our first customers upgrading to VBS4 including the Swedish Armed Forces, Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace, and Priority 1 Air Rescue. On our booth and around the show floor nearly 30 different companies showed VBS4, VBS3 and VBS Blue IG as the virtual environment for their training solutions, ranging from JTAC training to helicopter simulators.
This past year has been one of significant growth for BISim, with new contract awards, license renewals, and partnership agreements, including the U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corps, ADF, and others. With the first full release of VBS4 coming in 2020, we expect to deliver even more advanced training technologies that help enhance warfighter readiness and bring simulation closer to the point of need. VBS4 will replicate all VBS3 capabilities, many additional features will be added to the new VBS Plan and VBS Geo components of VBS4, and we will continue to extend the capabilities of the VBS World Server. It’s going to be an exciting year as we further cloud-enable our technologies and bring real-world scale to our AI simulation!

VBS4 Video Tutorial Highlights New, Easy-to-Use, Time-Saving Tools
In the video above, BISim Chief Commercial Officer Pete Morrison provides a high-level tutorial covering the new VBS4 workflow and shows the basics of the new VBS Geo and VBS Plan components. VBS Geo is an easy-to-use, whole-earth terrain editing tool included in VBS4. Testing has shown that editing terrain using VBS Geo is 10 times faster than using Visitor4 in VBS3. VBS Plan is a new, intuitive user interface that enables users to draw a tactical plan in VBS4 and then execute the plan with VBS Control AI. With VBS Plan, users created a synchronized Company-level plan 100 times faster in VBS4 than in VBS3.

Connecting the Real with the Virtual World at I/ITSEC: BISim Demonstrates Mixed Reality Apache Trainer
At I/ITSEC 2019, BISim demonstrated a new mixed reality AH-64 helicopter simulator, leveraging best-of-breed components, to showcase the power and training readiness of mixed reality.
With a high-detail Apache cockpit replica from Bugeye Technologies, the Varjo XR-1 (the world’s only human eye resolution VR headset), a simulation host from Zedasoft, and BISim’s VBS Blue IG as the high-fidelity virtual environment, I/ITSEC attendees could see the physical cockpit, cyclic and collective, console buttons, and see their own hands turning dials in the cockpit while also seamlessly viewing the virtual environment merged with the physical world. This technology has also been integrated with the FLEX-air simulation host from SASimulations, and has previously been delivered to the U.S. Navy for a T-45 simulator.

Bohemian Knights Win People’s Choice Award at I/ITSEC 2019’s Inaugural Iron Dev Competition
At I/ITSEC 2019 last week, BISim fielded a five-man team for the inaugural Iron Dev competition, an event similar to a competitive cooking show where teams were given a challenge (to develop a training solution to improve warfighter readiness) and a ‘secret ingredient’ (Iron Man). The teams had three days to develop their solutions using the software and tools provided by event sponsors and presented their prototype on the final day of the show. The ‘Bohemian Knights’ competed against the Air Force Research Labs, Army Game Studio and Naval Postgraduate School.
Congratulations to the Bohemian Knights team for taking home the People’s Choice award for their demonstration of J.A.R.V.I.S., which stands for Jointly Assisted Remote Visual Imaging System, which enables a qualified maintainer to work remotely with an outside technician. The solution was developed using Unity, an HTC Vive as the remote application and a Magic Leap 1 for the onsite tech to view a 3D schematic overlay of the equipment to be repaired.
