This Week's Sermon

This Sunday, we will continue our Advent series, A Man in Between, with a sermon on John 1:19-29 from Peter Lyon, campus pastor of RUF at VCU. We invite you to read ahead as a way to prepare for Sunday's service.

(Listen to sermons our website or subscribe on iTunes.)

Happening This Week

  • Tacky Lights Tour: All City Church middle and high schoolers are invited to take part in a tacky lights tour around Richmond! Meet at church at 5pm. After the tour, they'll have dinner at the Blanchards' home; pick-up is at 8:30pm. Contact Jim Pulizzi (jim@cityhchurchrva.com) with questions.
  • Registration Open for Women's Bible Study: Registration is open for our winter/spring Women's Bible Studies. We have two options: Monday evenings and Wednesday mornings. Visit our website to learn more.

Coming Up Soon

  • Christmas Eve at City Church—Readers Needed for 11pm: We will hold two Christmas Eve Services—a family-friendly service at 3pm and an 11pm service of lessons and carols. Both services will be at Grace Covenant. Childcare will not be provided during these services. Also: we are in need of a few readers to participate in the 11pm service. If you are willing and able, please contact Val (val@citychurchrva.com).
  • Elder and Deacon Nominations: The next few weeks are an open officer nomination period at City Church. All members are invited to prayerfully submit nominations for elder and deacon. Nominations need to be made to Erik or the Session in writing (email is sufficient) and must be received by Sunday, January 5th. If you have questions regarding the office of elder or deacon, please contact Erik (erik@citychurchrva.com). You can read more about the offices of elder and deacon—and the nomination process—on the City Church blog.
  • City Church Basics: Our next session of City Church Basics will be on Sunday, January 5th from 5:30pm to 8pm (dinner provided) and Wednesday, January 8th from 7pm to 9:30pm. City Church Basics is a chance to learn more about City Church—it is a necessary step to becoming a member, but pursuing membership is not required for those who attend. Please register here so we can plan for food and materials. If you have questions about Basics or membership in general, please feel free to get in touch with Erik (erik@citychurchrva.com).
  • Save the Date: City Group Leaders Training! We will have a City Group Leaders Training on Saturday, January 11th from 8:30am to 11:30am.  Childcare will be provided. Stay tuned for RSVP details!
  • Laser Tag: All City Church 3rd-5th graders are invited to play laser tag on Saturday, January 11th from 12:30pm to 3pm at Laser Quest in Midlothian (889 Research Road). The cost is $20 and gets them two games and snacks. Register here—and encourage them to invite friends!
  • 2020 Women's Retreat: Registration is open for our 2020 Women's Retreat, January 25th and 26th at Roslyn Retreat Center. The retreat weekend will be a wonderful time for spiritual growth and refreshment while developing community with women at City Church, both old and new friends alike! We hope you will join us for this weekend getaway just minutes outside the city. Register now!

Serving Our Community

  • Block Off Your Dates for the February-May Volunteer Rotation! Our team leaders will begin scheduling for the February-May volunteer rotation within the next few weeks. Current volunteers, please make sure to block out the dates you CANNOT serve during that time period by Tuesday, December 31st. You can do so via the Services app on your phone or via the Planning Center website. If you have issues accessing your account, please let Val Catrow (val@citychurchrva.com) know.
  • End-of-Year Gifts: Please note that all end-of-year contribution checks need to be in-hand or postmarked by December 31st to go towards 2019 deductions. Checks with a postmark of December 31st (or before) will be counted as 2019 giving if they are received no later than Friday, January 3rd, 2020. Gifts made via debit card, credit card, or ACH transfer can take 3-5 days to process, so please factor that into your planning. Visit citychurchrva.com/giving for details on different ways to give. Also: if you are planning to make large contribution, doing so by check allows us to avoid significant processing fees and ensures that more of your contribution goes directly to City Church. Thank you!
Have a great week—and we hope to see you soon!

Val
