Annual Winter Solstice Ride, & Walk too!

The "Shortest Ride on the Shortest Day!"
Saturday December 20th
5pm: Meet at the Children's Garden in Cass Park
6pm: Gather at Liquid State Brewery State St & Rte 13 behind the old Cornell Laundry

Invented over a decade ago by FLCC's Andrejs Ozolins to remind ourselves cycling is a year round activity (and really as an excuse to socialize together over beer) the Annual Winter Solstice Ride has become a beloved Annual Event co-led by Bike Walk Tompkins and Finger Lakes Cycling Club.  We still socialize over beer and refreshments!  Adorn yourself with lights, layers and reflective gear and come on out.  It's slow, short, social and fun, so don't worry if you ride gently.  All are welcome.

New this year:

BDTEN cofounder Jan Zeserson has offered to lead the First Ever Annual BWT Winter Solstice Walk.  Go from the Children's Garden straight to Liquid State, with a very short walk up the Black Diamond Trail to start. If you prefer to walk then ride, this is a great new option.

The First Annual BWT Advocacy & Organizing Hero Awards.  Applaud community members who have made a difference for biking and walking in our community.  They'll be Six A-OH Heroes honoured this year (we have to catch up for each year of BWT started in 2014)  We'll also be taking nominations for the A-OH awards for 2020; there are so many more folks who deserve recognition.

Memorial Tribute to Andrejs Ozolins.  Together we'll raise a glass to Andrejs, the longtime leader with Finger Lakes Cycling Club (FLCC), co-founder in 2006 of the Black Diamond Trail Enthusiasts Network (BDTEN) and all round tireless advocate for safer Bicycling and Walking in our community.  Andrejs was known equally for his kindness and generosity encouraging everyone at the 'back of the pack' on rides, and for his tenacious advocacy. We are honoured to remember Andrejs as a great friend to many of us at Bike Walk Tompkins and the Finger Lakes Cycling Club, and a standard bearer for all.

Free Lights and Bells:  If you come unprepared we've got you covered.

RSVP if you'll join the festivities (And no worries, come even if you forget to RSVP) However, your RSVP will help us get a count for the refreshments supply, and get us even more excited for Saturday.  See you soon!!

Participants in a past year's solstice ride: lights, reflectors and decorations galore!
