Once Upon a Time in Anatolia

Winner of the 2011 Cannes Grand Prix award, Once Upon a Time in Anatolia is a mesmerizing film in many ways.

Shot in Turkey, it tells the story of a small group of men who are searching for a dead body in the Anatolian countryside. Police officers and a doctor move from location to location, as the suspect accompanying them tries to remember where he buried his victim. As the night wears on, the group discusses various topics from the mundane to the profound.

Beautiful cinematography and interesting, desolate locations add to the scope of the film. Somewhat slower paced than most American films, Once Upon a Time in Anatolia rewards the viewer who takes the journey. Recommend

Tips & Techniques
Subwoofer design

Subwoofers come in many different designs, from dual driver enclosures to pressure vessel types like the B&W PV-1D (featured in a previous newsletter). One fundamental design aspect is whether the enclosure is sealed or ported. While both are acceptable, they do offer some differences in performance.

Acoustically suspended, or sealed, enclosures can offer deep bass response, but often at a lower overall output. Subwoofers that are ported usually have much more output, but once they reach their lowest frequency, they drop off dramatically.

So, if you're looking for more bass slam for a home theater, perhaps a ported design might work best. It has plenty of output, but tends to drop off before achieving the lowest audible frequencies.

On the other hand, perhaps a sealed enclosure might be better, with its deeper bass response. The downside to the sealed one, however, is that the bass begins to roll off much sooner than a ported sub.

While it's best not to choose a sub based solely on the design, it's useful to understand the differences. Overall, the best sub is the one that will work in your particular room. So, if you looking for a new sub, stop by Harmony and we'll be happy to help you select the right one for you!

Audioquest Niagara 1200

It’s extremely rare to find a home where there is clean AC power. Most of our homes are riddled with electronic gadgets that introduce noise into our power lines. In fact, at Harmony we use a specialized tool for spotting power lines with noise.

While you can get a cheap surge suppressor at the hardware store, good electronics deserve good AC!

Designed by Garth Powell, the Audioquest Niagara 1200 embodies the very same design philosophy and incorporates the same patented technology found in its larger siblings, the Niagara 5000 and Niagara 7000, but packs it into a smaller, sleeker enclosure—at a fraction of the price.

Much like the Niagara 5000 and 7000, the Niagara 1200 uses ultra-low resistance solid-core wiring optimized for low-noise directionality, capacitor forming technologies that vastly improve linearity and minimize distortion, and low-impedance AC inlet and outlet contacts with heavy silver plating over high-purity beryllium copper for superior noise dissipation.

Similarly, the Niagara 1200 features non-sacrificial surge protection, patented Ground Noise-Dissipation technology, and over-voltage shutdown.

The Niagara 1200’s non-sacrificial protection circuits ensure that your system is thoroughly protected from AC surges and spikes, and the Niagara 1200 protects itself—no damage, no down time. Set it and forget it.

The Niagara 1200 employs AudioQuest’s patented Ground-Noise Dissipation System and Linear Noise-Dissipation Technology and fits seven high-performance outlets into its sleek cabinet-friendly chassis. Input current maximum capacity is 15 amps RMS in the 1200.

Treat your gear right, with good, clean power! Currently in stock at Harmony, the Audioquest Niagara 1200 sells for $1200.
