“Prairie Post Office” Presentation at North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum

BISMARCK, N.D. – “The Prairie Post Office,” a free lecture by authors K. Amy Phillips and Steven R. Bolduc, will be presented at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 19, at the North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum in Bismarck. The presentation will include a brief history of mail delivery in Dakota Territory and highlight the critical roles of post offices in contemporary rural North Dakota communities.

“The Prairie Post Office: Enlarging the Common Life in Rural North Dakota," a book by co-authors Phillips and Bolduc, is the inspiration for this program. The book also inspired the exhibit “The Prairie Post Office” that opened recently at the North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum, featuring contemporary photography by Wayne Gudmundson. The exhibit is on view in the James E. Sperry Gallery through 2021. The book will be available for purchase in the Museum Store, and the authors will be available to sign following the presentation.
