Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment
Did you know that there are certain requirements when you’re installing an Electric Vehicle (EV) charger? Before installing an EV charger, you'll need to familiarise yourself with the device requirements within the QECM. Some of these requirements are:
- The rating of any single-phase charger on a single-phase residential building should not exceed 20amp
- Many larger EVs come with 32amp chargers which can’t be installed without an exemption, as per QECM requirements. You may be eligible for an exemption of an EV charger with a rating greater than 20amp. However, you'll need to provide us with additional information including site address, site maximum demand, and evidence of compliance with other QECM requirements. In addition to this, you may be required to install an appropriately rated circuit breaker for overload protection of the consumer mains.
For a full list of requirements for installing an EV charger, based on phases and building type of premises, refer to QECM Clause 4.2.5 – Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment.
An exemption application under the QECM for Clause 4.2.5 can be submitted to tech.enquiries@energex.com.au.
