Two Weeks to Sleep In!

We made it to winter break! If you are a novice or a veteran, you need this! I have 33 freshmen in one class and I didn't kill a single one! But between Bowl Games, get-togethers and presents - take a look at some great stuff we have to share with you!

Awesome Disaster Game That's FREE

The National Academy of Science has a really cool disaster "event game!" Choose an earthquake, hurricane or flood. The website walks you through the process. I am going to add this to my Intro Classes in the Spring to keep things interesting in May!
Take a look - it is really awesome!

Police Shortages - Our Opportunity

When I started back in the 90s it was hard to get industry involved in our programs. Today police and fire face critical shortages. We can reach out to our local law and public safety programs with a solution to their probelm. Here is a great article on a project in Dallas.

Competitions in Virginia

The Future Guardians of Virginia are hosting a competition in March. They have several areas for both team and individuals. We do a similar thing in Georgia and it is a great warm up for state SkillsUSA. Plus more kids can complete in more ares. The competition is open to ANY LPSCS program from ANY state.

Special Thanks for Supporting LAPSEN

The ACTE conference was a huge success for LAPSEN! We added greatly to our network of western state leaders, teachers and administrators. We sponsored some great sessions and had a blast at our evening receptions. None of this could have been possible without support from our partners iCEV, SAVE and Precision Exams!

APCO Asks for Our Help

The Fight Continues to Reclassify Public Safety Telecommunicators as Protective Service Occupations
In July, APCO provided an update on the 9-1-1 SAVES Act, which would reclassify public safety telecommunicators as Protective Service Occupations (as opposed to administrative/clerical). The provisions of 9-1-1 SAVES were included in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), a separate bill that had passed the House of Representatives. As APCO explained, the process forward for the NDAA was complex and required reconciliation of the differing House and Senate versions of the bill.
