McLeod wins NSW Under 25 Singles
Played at Wenty Leagues - 14 December
|
|
Emmett McLeod of NBC Sports has claimed the 2019 NSW Under 25 Singles Championship with a hard-fought final victory over Toby Peters (Dapto Citizens) in the final played at Wenty Leagues (14 December).
McLeod and Peters had a great battle in the final, the pair trading shots and searching to gain the upper hand.
With the scores evenly balanced, Peters appeared to have gained the advantage with a perfectly directed running shot propelling the jack toward the ditch, and a near certain count of 3. The jack however bounced back up the green and rebounded off Peter’s bowl to give McLeod a 2.
McLeod then backed up that result with his own running shot result, moving him into a match winning advantage. McLeod won though his section with wins over Reece Oliver (Halekulani) and Britt Camp (Armidale Ex-Services) before a semi-final with Callum Murray (Engadine).
Murray fought back from a deficit to level the scores at 20 each before McLeod secured the section with a 21-20 win.
Peters also faced an effective semi-final match after both he and fellow NSW Under 18 representative Michael Phillips (Merrylands) recorded wins over Joel Nouws (Bateau Bay) and Thomas Rich (Mudgee).
Peters was in magnificent touch in that third-round match, eclipsing Phillips 21-6 to progress through to the final.

Baus & Stewart Secure Singles Titles
2019 Australian Championships
|
|
It was a golden day for New South Wales’ Matthew Baus and Queensland’s Chloe Stewart, who secured the 2019 Australian Championships coveted Singles titles.
With both finales coming to a close in sync with one another, Baus and Stewart saw off Blake Butler (WA) and Genevieve Delves (NSW) respectively, with both finals following a similar pattern.
Both matches were squared at 10 apiece as all finalists battled for ascendency, before the two ultimate victors ran away with the contest with powerful displays in the second half of their matches.
For both players, it’s their first Australian Championships Singles crown, while for Stewart, she adds this title to her Triples title from earlier in the week.

NSW Secured Mixed Pairs Title
2019 Australian Championships
|
|
Cabramatta’s Erin Swatridge and Aaron Wilson have collected the Mixed Pairs title to round out the 2019 Australian Championships, prevailing a blockbuster final against Queensland.
The NSW duo, up against the mother-in-law/son-in-law duo of Liz Walton and Aron Sherriff, burst out the blocks to a big lead early, before Queensland wrestled back the momentum to force a last-ditched victory by Swatridge and Wilson.
Down 14-15 on the final end, NSW produced a match-result of three to snatch victory, after Queensland had dominated the second-half of the match.
