A CHRISTMAS WE CAN BELIEVE IN
Our inter-generational cast (children, youth, parents and teachers) presented the Christmas Story,
reminding us of the amazing gift of the season!
Is your witness in this season a Christmas
that you and those you encounter can believe in?!

REFLECTION

Joy: An Advent Poem
By Luke Schumann

Where can we find joy
in a world that cannot recognize
the hope and peace
that Christ provides?
The answer, I think, lies
within the question itself.

Though in our world
we see destruction
caused by wealth
and power’s seduction,
the rumor making rounds
among earth’s poor
is that in our own midst
our Savior has been born.

And this truth
that we’ve been told
is neither fraction nor refraction
but rather, a course of action
which will truly set us free.

For this child whose birth
among the lowly
has come to level the highest of hills
and raise from the depths
the deepest of valleys–
his entrance the rallying cry
of the poor and disenfranchised;
his residence reserved
for only those the world despised.

And for this we rejoice
for with us now
is the Son of God, the King of Kings;
his presence the greatest gift
we can ever hope to receive.

How else can we respond
if not with joy, if not with hope
and dancing and laughter?
For our world will be
forever changed hereafter.

FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT

The Advent season comes to a close as we celebrate the most precious gift that is the real highlight, "Love."  The baby Jesus was God's amazing gift to us so many years ago, and with it the promise we now know that Jesus will come again.

The Jubilant Voices will lead us in worship through the blessing of music.  Rev. Paul A. Hill brings the preached word under the sermon title, "By Divine Design," with Matthew 1:18-25 as the scripture.

"The season of Advent is joy, color, light, and anticipation. And it is a time of worship. . . Advent is the season where we remember that God chose to put on flesh and dwell among us.  God reached down from incomprehensible heights to touch the life we live.  And God chose to be born in the humblest of ways, in a manger, in a barn, or a cave, or on the side of the road. . . .There is no proper response, other than worship.

"At the same time, Advent is a reminder that there is more to come, that we are on a journey toward a new reality, a new way of being. . . . It is less a remembrance of the first coming and more an anticipation of the completion of the promised kingdom."

May the lessons of Hope, Peace, Joy and Love that we have lived and reflected on during this Advent, continue with us as we journey through the Christmas season and beyond.  To God be the Glory!!
