Putting a monetary value on human life supports decision makers in seeking a balance between the cost of a safety measure and the reduction in harm it delivers, but new research suggests that the value given to a human life – the Value of a Prevented Fatality (VPF) – by the UK Government is too low.

Bristol Colombia Week 2019: Truth-seeking and the Colombian Diaspora

Bristol Colombia Week 2019 hosted a wide range of talks, seminars and film screenings with key members of the Colombian Truth Commission and peace process. There was a particular focus on the challenges involved in collecting testimonies of the violence from Colombians living in exile.

Using evidence to advise public health decision makers: an insider's view

This seminar, hosted by The University of Bristol’s MRC IEU, PolicyBristol and Bristol Population Health Sciences Institute, included a diverse audience of around 60 multidisciplinary academics, policymakers and practitioners to hear our speakers give a range of insider perspectives on linking academic research with national and local decisions on what to fund and implement.
