The Best of 2019
2019 was Modern Sky UK's biggest year yet. Let's look back at some of the highlights...
JANUARY
January was all about Red Rum Club as they released their incredible debut album Matador. It reached the Top 50 of the UK album charts and cemented their status as Liverpool's most exciting new band.

FEBRUARY
Our second album of the year came from raucous rock trio Calva Louise with their debut LP Rhinoceros. February also saw the announcement that SPINN would be bringing out their debut album at the start of the summer, and we signed Scottish indie outfit Declan Welsh and the Decadent West.

MARCH
The Blinders headed stateside for a performance at SXSW. The Slow Readers Club and The Tea Street Band also joined forces as they headed on a UK tour together. SPINN graced our ears with Believe It Or Not whilst SPQR subjected us to Josephine's sonic slap.

APRIL
SPQR released their Low Sun Long Shadows EP. The Blinders played their biggest headline show ever at the O2 Ritz Manchester and No Hot Ashes sold-out a secret gig in Aatma in less than 10 minutes. Abbie Ozard released her first single of 2019 in Growing Pains, later to feature as the title track in her debut EP.

MAY
SPINN released their self-titled debut album and became and instant indie classic. No Hot Ashes announced that their first LP was to drop in August, and Red Rum Club climbed up to #12 in the vinyl charts. We also took over a stage Liverpool Sound City, showcasing the Modern Sky roster in full force.

JUNE
Declan Welsh and the Decadent West changed the game forever with No Fun, and announced their debut album Cheaply Bought, Expensively Sold would be released in October. The lads were also hand picked by Billy Bragg to perform on Glastonbury's Leftfield Stage. There were also performances from The Blinders, Red Rum Club and new signing The Lottery Winners across the festival weekend.

JULY
The Tea Street Band unveiled their Frequency EP (The Remixes), featuring a reworking of Only Love by Jimi Goodwin of Doves. No Fun graced the primetime airwaves by becoming BBC Radio 1's Introducing Track of the Week. Natalie McCool treated us with Someone Nue and Abbie Ozard broke the internet with Heartbreak Radio.

AUGUST
No Hot Ashes' debut album Hardship Starship landed. New signings The Jacques released their comeback single Kiss The Pharaoh and Yousef made waves in the dance world with The Only Constant Is Change. SPINN performed at Reading & Leeds Festival.

SEPTEMBER
Where to begin with September...

Yousef released new album 9 Moor Drive and became Annie Mac's Hottest Record In The World on BBC Radio 1. The Blinders immortalised their biggest headline show to date with Live At The Ritz, reaching #8 in the Vinyl Charts. Abbie Ozard gifted us with her Growing Pains EP and headed out on tour with Whenyoung. SPINN caressed us with their Acoustic EP and Red Rum Club returned with the monstrous Kids Addicted just in time before their sold-out show in Liverpool Academy. The Lottery Winners announced that their long-awaited debut album would arrive in March 2020, and management act The Lathums became overnight sensations as they sold out their first ever UK tour in less than 30 minutes.

OCTOBER
October saw the release of Cheaply Bought, Expensively Sold - the electrifying debut album from Declan Welsh and the Decadent West. There was also a return for Catholic Action with new single One Of Us, and The Slow Readers Club released their Live At O2 Apollo Manchester album which reached #17 in the Vinyl Chart

NOVEMBER
We announced the signing of Liverpool indie quartet Paris Youth Foundation. We released Jamie Webster's first original single Weekend In Paradise, with the song peaking at #8 in the iTunes chart and streamed over 100,000 times in its first week. The Lottery Winners gifted us with Little Things and The Lathums coupled three dates supporting Gerry Cinnamon with new single I Know That Much. New signing Sylvie wowed us all with wintery alt-pop gem Ice Me Over. The Blinders launched the For The Many tour, with all proceeds going towards local Labour Party efforts.

DECEMBER
Natalie McCool got us into the Christmas spirit with Please Please Please (Won't You Unwrap Me?). We rounded the year off with a big gig at Hangar34 from The Tea Street Band & Jamie Webster, before the two headed off to Qatar to perform at the Club World CupThe Slow Readers Club played 2 sold-out nights at the O2 Ritz in Manchester as part of their December tour Declan Welsh and the Decadent West was awarded Tenement TV's Album Of The Year and Red Rum Club released Would You Rather Be Lonely? (Live In Liverpool).
