Hello Rogers Park families and members of our community!
Welcome to 2020! I hope everyone had a wonderful winter break and had some time to relax with family and friends. I am hoping the students all got some rest and are ready for a great second semester.
Our rink will be up and running all of January and until the ice melts! This means we can begin our wonderful lunchtime skating program! This lunchtime skating program requires many parent volunteers and I am hoping you will be able to help out. If you can tie skates, we need you! Please get in touch with Tracy Dumas at tdumas128@gmail.com if you are able to help out on Thursdays and/or Fridays.
As we move into the new year just a reminder about end of day procedures.
- If you need to pick up your child early, please do so by 3:00. This avoids the rush of the end of the day. Thank you for doing that.
- We also know that plans change sometimes so if you need to get a message to your child by the end of the day please let the office know that by 3:00. If you call later than 3:00, we cannot guarantee that the message will make it to your child by dismissal time.
In the mornings, students cannot be dropped off until 8:30 at the earliest. We have no supervision until that time.
Remember the front doors of the school are locked after school at 4:15. This is to ensure the safety of all our staff after hours. If you have an afterschool activity, please know that the students will come out the front door at the end of the activity. In the mornings, the only door that is open is the far-right door.
Please remember to SLOW DOWN in our parking lot. For the safety of everyone coming and going please make sure your max speed is 5-8 miles an hour. This will give you time to react if you need to stop suddenly. Please for the safety of our kids, SLOW DOWN. To cut down on the amount of traffic through our parking lot, the gate to Northern Lights is closed from 9:15-3:00 every day. If you are visiting the school during that time, please enter on Zarvis.
Electronics and other new toys that have been acquired during the winter break need to stay home when we return to school. If your child needs to bring a phone to communicate with you after school, remind them that it stays in their backpack until the end of the day. Thank you for helping us monitor toys and gadgets when we return to school!
Thank you for everything you do for your students at Rogers Park. It takes all of us to create a learning, caring environment for all our students.

Principal, Rogers Park

Greetings from the Library....
Welcome to the New Year!
It was a whirlwind December in the library.
- Students in grades K-4 studied folk and fairy tales. We read and worked on activities to learn more about these classic tales.
- Fifth grade students worked on finishing up their colonial day games unit. We had a lot of fun with lawn bowling, jacks, checkers, chess and tiddlywinks.
- Sixth grade students are finishing their Internet safety presentations.
In January, the genre for study is Science Fiction. We’ll explore new worlds and make our own predictions about the new decade.
- Second grade students will begin their Iditarod unit
- Third grade will focus on learning to use the PAC to find resources in the library.
- Fourth grade will begin their author studies unit
- Fifth grade will start website evaluation.
It’s going to be a great year in the library!
