Celebrating our seniors
The NSW Seniors Festival is an opportunity to celebrate seniors and the value they add to our lives. To acknowledge the remarkable contributions local seniors make to our Blue Mountains community, a program of events for the month of February has been put together. The program can be downloaded here or picked up at Council’s Library branches and Customer Service Centres.
Council will also host the annual Blue Mountains Seniors Week Recognition Awards that acknowledge the contribution individuals and organisations have made to the seniors of the Blue Mountains community. Nomination forms can be downloaded here or picked up at Council’s Library branches and Customer Service Centres. Applications close Monday, 10 February 2020.

Youth Council applications open
Youth Council applications are now open!
The Youth Council is a fantastic opportunity for young people to be empowered to gain a deep understanding of citizenship and be involved in positive civic action for change in their communities.
Applications are open to young people who live, work or study in the Blue Mountains. The Youth Council meets monthly and develops a program of actions to increase opportunities and improve services for young people, and also share their opinions and ideas with Councillors and staff.

Gecko Newsletter
Read the summer edition of our Gecko Newsletter. The Gecko is all about Bushcare in the Blue Mountains. Bushcare is a community volunteer program where groups work in their local area to remove weeds in a way that helps give native plants the space and opportunity to thrive. They also do stormwater control works, erosion control works, track maintenance and improvement, seed collection, plant propagation, public education, and other bushland management issues. In this edition we showcase latest achievements, the new weeds booklet, environmental awards and catchment days, as well as pay tribute to some legends of the Bushcare community. Read the latest Gecko Newsletter

Supporting our community to recover
We are committed to supporting our community and residents who have been impacted by recent bush fires, and to make the recovery journey as easy as possible. This Bush Fire Recovery Guide has been developed to provide information that can assist our community through the recovery process. The information in the guide, that includes recovery information from Council as well as useful links and recovery details from State and Federal Government agencies, is being updated regularly.

Shop, play and stay local!
Council is also urging residents to spend at least an extra $20 a week locally in 2020, to help the City recover after bush fires. The Love Local campaign aims to recoup money lost to the local economy after visitors stayed away over the traditionally busy Christmas New Year period, due to bush fires in the upper Blue Mountains. If each adult in the Blue Mountains spends an extra $20 a week locally, then the local economy will increase by up to $92 million in one year thanks to a multiplier effects. As this campaign progresses, we’ll be asking our neighbouring councils to promote the concept, as well as councils throughout Western Sydney. We can all help our City, and our State, recover after these unprecedented bush fires. Read more about Love Local here
