Dealing with disagreement on the board.

Their is a useful article in the recent edition of Our Community Matters - a newsletter from Our Community - and organisation that supports the not-for-profit sector and hosts the Communities in Control conference.  The article is a response to a committee member from a small not for profit, who is dealing with some challenges on their board - some people taking control of things, with others on the board choosing not to, or not able to stand up and demand accountability or transparency.

The story can be found at the below link, and brings home the cold hard truth, that conflict within the board really needs to be dealt with by the board.  Others can offer assistance and advice, but unless the law has been broken it is very difficult for others to be able to help.

Go to page 37 of the Our Community Matters e-Newsletter here.

While you're at it, you'll find various other stories insights and ideas to help the management and governance of your not-for-profit organisation.

A guide to collaborative leadership - TED talk.

"What's the difference between heroes and leaders? In this insightful talk, Lorna Davis explains how our idolization of heroes is holding us back from solving big problems -- and shows why we need "radical interdependence" to make real change happen."  This talk is talks about a business environment, but there are some good messages for us in community too...
