The Mossawa Center's European Tour and Civil Society Conference

The Mossawa Center completes its EU advocacy tour

It's been a busy fortnight at the Mossawa Center. Facing an unprecedented third consecutive election, we stepped up our efforts with a European advocacy tour from 29 November to 6 December 2019. In sixteen meetings with key stakeholders across Berlin and Brussels, the Mossawa Center delivered a firm message that the rights of the Palestinian Arab community in Israel must be protected at this precarious time. Beyond this, we asserted that the Palestinian Arab community can be game changers in ending the deadlock in Israeli politics and rehabilitating the moribund peace process.

At this particularly bleak juncture in Israeli politics, international engagement with the Palestinian Arab community in Israel is more crucial than ever. The tour resulted in constructive dialogue with our partners, old and new, and highlighted the essential role this community and the European Union can play in reinvigorating the peace process and guaranteeing the rights of the Palestinian Arab community within Israel.

The Mossawa Center hosts its first civil society conference

The Mossawa Center hosted its first civil society conference on Friday, 13 December at the Legacy Hotel in Nazareth, with almost 150 people in attendance, including business men and women, representatives from civil society organisations, youth groups, the Knesset, foundations, and international embassies.

This conference included several panels and the presentation of key working papers on civil society, dealing with far-reaching issues from organizational independence to the most pressing issues in Arab society in Israel, such as violence and poverty.

At the end of the conference, the Mossawa Center and its partners presented sub grants to community initiatives, supported by a group of businessmen, businesswomen, and the European Union. This involves both practical and financial support to more than ten community and youth initiatives. The Mossawa Center prides itself as an incubator of Arab civil society, and the conference was the latest example of our mission. By establishing an ongoing, first-of-its-kind fund for social initiatives, and establishing and consolidating networks, the Mossawa Center is helping to construct a stronger, unified, and capable Arab civil society.
