As we prepare for the winter holiday break, we pause to reflect on all of the exciting developments that have occurred over the past year. Looking back, it is clear that expansion has been the predominant theme for us in 2019.
We are passionate about our work, and we are thankful for each and every one of you – our board members, partner schools, funders, and community partners – for your generous and unflagging support for our mission. We could not do all of this without all of you!

In September, we completed a strategic planning process to guide our work over the next three years. During this process, we identified several avenues for expanding our reach into more schools, both locally and nationally, and positioning ALLMemphis as a premier certifying body for best practices in multisensory structured literacy instruction.

This year, ALLMemphis began offering Response to Instruction and Intervention (RTI2) and special education services to provide small-group, intensive academic support for students in kindergarten through eighth grade who need it the most. Our program models help schools give RTI2 and special education the priority attention that they deserve so that they are more effective and more beneficial for both students and teachers.

Expansion of PARTNERSHIPS
|

|
In 2019, we added Believe Memphis Academy, Memphis Merit Academy, and Power Center Academy to our family of partner schools and expanded our role at Promise Academy – Hollywood.
This fall, we teamed up with Shelby County Schools to implement our research-based, data-driven approach to reading instruction in seven elementary schools in the district. We trained 14 special education teachers at Chimney Rock Elementary, Dexter Elementary, Gardenview Elementary, Lucy Elementary, Sea Isle Elementary, Snowden School, and Vollentine Optional Elementary in best practices for helping children learn the foundations for reading.
We’ve also just secured a grant to launch a pilot remediation program at Aspire Hanley Elementary and Aspire Coleman Elementary next semester. We’ll be working with these schools to deepen and increase foundational reading intervention for students in grades 3 through 5.
To enhance our work in all of our partner schools, we collaborated with Kifani Press to create decodable texts that students can relate to – books that are reflections of and resources for the children who read them.

ALLMemphis has doubled in size over the past year, and some staff members have stepped into new roles. In 2019, we welcomed two new Program Specialists, an Education Pioneers fellow, and an intern, and we will soon be adding eight part-time Remediation Specialists to support our work with Aspire Public Schools.
We celebrate these accomplishments and are grateful for the many new opportunities that have opened up for us this year. At ALLMemphis, we believe that ALL children deserve to experience the freedom and confidence that come with knowing how to read, and we continue to be wholeheartedly committed to making that happen.
