Dear <<First Name>>,

Participating in congresses and courses is a very effective and efficient way of keeping up to date with latest developments in the field of sustainable process innovation. Here is a shortlist of congresses and events for 2020.

Regards,

Upcoming sustainable events

4th World Congress on Advances in Food Science, Processing and Technology, Tokyo, Japan, February 27-28, 2020

Food processing is advancing faster in some areas then in chemicals processing. Novel rapid heating and separation techniques in particular advanced here. These techniques can also be useful in chemicals processing.

AIChE Spring Meeting and 16th Global Congress on Process Safety, Houston, Texas, USA, March 29 - April 2, 2020

The spring meetings always have many contributions from industry. It is far more informal than the Fall meeting. Several times I picked up new ideas from a spring meeting.

ESCAPE 30, 30th European Symposium on Computer Aided Process Engineering, 24 - 27 May 2020, Milan, Italy

This symposium covers the latest developments in process design and modelling methods and is attended by around 200 people from academia and industry.

ESEE 2020, 12th European Symposium on Electrochemical Engineering, 14 - 18 June 2020, Leeuwarden, The Netherlands.

For 50 years electrochemistry was hardly relevant for the process industry. But now with cheap and sustainable electricity available, many R&D programmes are underway to turn the fossil-based process industries to renewables-based industries. Electrochemistry will play a role in this change. This symposium will give you a flying start on this subject.

CHISA, 24th International Congress of Chemical and Process Engineering,  August 2020, Clarion Congress Hotel, Prague, Czech Republic.

This congress covers all aspects of chemical processing. It also has topics on educating sustainable chemical engineering. The participants are from mainly from academia, but also from industry. There are always a relatively large number of people from Eastern Europe, the Middle East and East-Asia; hence an extra opportunity to increase your network.
Together with Maarten Verkerk I will give a keynote lecture on Process Intensification - Breakthrough in Design, Industrial Innovation Practices, and Education. Our book with that title will be launched and be available from DEGRUYTER bookstand.

2nd International Conference on Sustainable Production and Consumption, 24 - 25 June 2020 Edinburgh, United Kingdom

This 2-day conference is about sustainable value chains. I have no experience with this conference series, but it looks attractive and Edinburgh is a beautiful city.

IWA World Water Congress & Exhibition, Copenhagen, Denmark, 18 – 23 October 2020.

Water processing is becoming more and more important in view of contributing to sustainable development goals. Water processing is about large scale processing at very low cost. This means that new technologies such a variable speed pumps replacing standard pumps and valves have been introduced in this field far earlier than in other process industry branches. So attending this congress to find cross-sectoral technologies should also be considered if you are outside this process branch.

Advanced Course Industrial Process and Unit Operations Scale-up, 3-4 November 2020 in Capelle aan den IJssel, The Netherlands.

This course conducted by me, covers scale-up of integrated processes and unit operations. I have given this course since 2012 and by feedback from the course participants from all kinds of industry branches, food, chemicals, biomass, life sciences, oil&gas, fertiliser, technology providers and engineering contractors the course is now well established. The course book used is Jan Harmsen, Industrial Process Scale-up – A Practical Innovation Guide from Idea to Commercial Scale Implementation, Elsevier, Amsterdam (2019).
More information can be found on the course page.

2020 AIChE Fall Meeting, November 15-20, 2020, San Francisco, CA, USA

The fall meeting of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers always attracts thousands and thousands of participants and presenters from all over the world both from academia and industry. All process unit operations will be covered as well as break-through new process intensified technologies. I will probably participate.
