In addition to providing more than 15,000 meals last month, GiftAMeal also published their 14 month case study with Pastaria, hired a part-time Restaurant Liaison, and received news that they are a finalist for a $50,000 grant.

Thursday, January 9 - New City School -  Winter Open House at New City School - 
Take a tour and meet Head of School Alexis Wright, faculty and staff, and current parents at New City School’s Winter Open House. This event on Thursday, January 9th, will begin with a tour of our school starting at 6:00pm, and ending with a Q&A session, where we will answer all your questions about New City School and the admissions process, including our Variable Tuition program. During the school year, Heidi Kehle (one of our wonderful preschool teachers), shares her stories and musical magic through Story Time each month from 9:30 - 11:00 am in the New City School Library. Stories and activities are designed for children from infant/toddler through second grade. Saturday Story Time is free and snacks are provided. You can also sign up to receive updates about upcoming Story Time Saturdays!

Wednesday, January 15 - World Chess Hall of FameBeing Played: Artist Talk with Michael Drummond - 6:30-8p - Join fashion designer Michael Drummond for a gallery talk about his latest solo exhibition, "Michael Drummond: Being Played," featuring garments inspired by the intersection of chess, fashion, and the world’s current climate crisis. Learn more about the pieces on view as Michael discusses his processes and various inspirations. Following the talk, Drummond and fashion editor Sarah Stallmann will engage in a dialogue, expanding on the topics and themes presented in the exhibition and will answer questions from the audience.

Thursday, January 16 - World Chess Hall of Fame - Composer Series: Beethoven 250th Festival: String Quartet - 7-8p - 2020 marks the 250th birthday celebration for Ludwig van Beethoven, one of the most beloved and influential composers of all time. Countless musicians, ensembles, and performing arts organizations around the world will honor his incredible legacy throughout the calendar year. The World Chess Hall of Fame will join the festivities in presenting a 6-concert festival dedicated to some of Beethoven’s greatest works; the Late String Quartets performed by members of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, and the Complete Piano Sonatas featuring Peter Henderson in an all-day marathon event on Saturday, August 29th, 2020.

Sunday, January 19 - 4pm - Anita Jackson and friends present a concert at Second Presbyterian Church on Sunday, January 19 at 4:00 pm. Ms. Jackson will be joined with her trio of piano, bass, and drums and perform music commemorating the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The church is located at 4501 Westminster Place in the Central West End, St. Louis, 63108. Wednesday, January 22 - World Chess Hall of Fame Crafts & Cocktails: Embroidery with Tara Meyer - 6-8p - Learn more about textile arts and how to stitch in an evening workshop with embroidery maven Tara Meyer. Using inspiration from the garments showcased in "Michael Drummond: Being Played," guests will practice basic embroidery and beading techniques to create wearable floral designs. Feel free to bring your own clothing or accessories to spruce-up or use the materials provided. Availability is limited to 15 guests.
Monday, January 27 - Left Bank Books presents author Luke Geddes, who will sign and discuss his debut novel, Heart of Junk (Simon & Schuster, January 2020), on Monday, January 27, 7:00 p.m. at Left Bank Books (399 N. Euclid). This event is free and open to the public.
Tuesday, January 28 - World Chess Hall of FameCurator-Led Tour: Fashion, Chess, and Space - 11a-12p - Have you ever wondered what chess has to do with fashion, beauty, and outer space? Join us for a free, in-depth look at our current exhibitions, "Michael Drummond: Being Played," "A Beautiful Game," and "Ground Control: A Journey Through Chess and Space." Curators Shannon Bailey and Emily Allred will lead the tour and be available to answer questions. Enjoy a complimentary boxed lunch with our staff or take it back to the office, following the tour.
Cathedral Concerts announces their 2019 - 2020 season - Saint Louis Cathedral Concerts, an independent nonprofit that brings sacred and classical music to St. Louis from world-class musicians, releases its concert lineup for the 27th season. The 2019-2020 season kicks off Monday, July 29th at 8:00pm, and continues through Friday, April 21st, 2020. The series of live concerts will showcase notable musicians in one of the world’s most striking cathedrals, the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Louis located at 4431 Lindell Blvd.
