Two upcoming events in Peterborough

Dear <<First Name>>

Please consider attending and supporting these two events next week. On Thursday join Peterborough Youth Empowerment who are advocating to have local school boards declare a Climate Emergency. And on Saturday join elder Dorothy Taylor at the launch of the new To All Our Relatives web site.

Climate Education Forum

Youth-run organization Peterborough Youth Empowerment (PYE) is hosting a climate forum to inform students, parents, and school board officials on the potential benefits of declaring a climate emergency in the Kawartha Pine Ridge District and Peterborough, Victoria, Northumberland and Clarington Catholic District School Boards.

The forum will take place on Monday, January 13 at St Alphonsus Church (Knights of Columbus Hall) 810 Frank St, Peterborough from 6:30-7:30 PM.

PYE high school students will present their case for strengthening climate education in their two boards. They want more climate education in the classroom, better climate crisis training for teachers, more strategic focus on the crisis at schools and Board levels, and the reduction of Board carbon emissions. Sudbury-based youth Climate activist Sophia Mathur will connect via video link along with a parent activist and the lead Superintendent of the Environment Committee from the Rainbow District School Board which declared a similar climate emergency this past September.

Following the forum, PYE will send delegations to present to trustees of both Boards on January 28th, 2020, to urge them to declare a climate emergency in their respective boards.

Visit the event on their facebook page and invite your friends.

Launch of To All Our Relatives web site

Elder and Knowledge Keeper Dorothy Taylor from Curve Lake First Nation will join For Our Grandchildren and the Sacred Water Circle to tell us how the website "Kina Gdi-Gwendaagininaanig - To All Our Relatives" can help us all with the pressures of the climate crisis.  She will explore the name and what it means for those of us concerned with the fate of the planet.

Also there will be a time for writing a note to a loved one, or taking a photo or video to put on the web to explain why you are concerned about the climate crisis and what you are doing about it. Get inspiration from others present.

Join us on Saturday, January 18th from 2:00 to 4:00 at Trinity United Church, 360 Reid Street. Please invite all your friends to come and share their messages to their future relatives. Here's the event on Facebook.

You can add your message to the To All Our Relatives web site here.

This experience encourages connections with all living creatures based on Indigenous knowledge.
