Register for the Sweetheart Ball
The East Lansing Department of Parks, Recreation and Arts (ELPRA) invites community members to the popular, annual Sweetheart Ball. The dance will take place Tuesday, Feb. 11 and Wednesday, Feb. 12 from 7-8:30 p.m. at the East Lansing Hannah Community Center (ELHCC), 819 Abbot Road.
Youth, along with their favorite adult/caregiver (or even their whole family), can enjoy a Valentine-inspired night. The night will include a DJ, dancing, snacks, refreshments, a photo booth, a craft table and more. Semi-formal or dressy attire is recommended for this special night! The cost is $14 per person for residents and $15 per person for non-residents.

Learn the Basics at Buddy Basketball
ELPRA is excited to offer Buddy Basketball; a program designed for youth, ages 5-7, that introduces them to the sport of basketball.
Participants of this program will be paired with a "buddy" and will work on basic basketball handling skills and motor skill development. Additionally, each 50-minute session will include drills, activities and scrimmaging.
Buddy Basketball session two will take place Feb. 8-29. Sessions will take place at 9 a.m., 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. The registration deadline is Friday, Jan. 17 and space is limited. AECT to Bring "Robin Hood" to the Stage
ELPRA is pleased to announce the All-of-us Express Children's Theatre's production of "Robin Hood." Audiences will join Robin Hood and his friends on an exciting adventure to stop King John and the Sheriff of Nottingham's evil plot. More than 60 area youth from the mid-Michigan area come together to bring this charming, action-packed children's classic to life. Show dates/times are as follows:
ELPRA offers a variety of aquatic classes for all ages and skill levels. Classes start for children as young as six months old and continue to the more competitive Junior Trojan Swim Club. Looking for adult programming? Masters Swim Club is available for adults 18 and older who are interested in a competitive fitness club. ELPRA also offers private swim lessons for participants looking for one-on-one instruction that can be tailored to specific needs and current level of swimming.
East Lansing Children's Concert Series Returns this February
The East Lansing Children’s Concert Series returns this February, featuring three Saturdays of live musical entertainment for children of all ages. The concerts are free and open to all. The concerts will take place at 11 a.m. at the ELHCC on the following dates:
Saturday, Feb. 1 - Mark Dvorak
Ever since high school, Mark Dvorak has developed a great interest in American Folk Music. Through the acoustic guitar and banjo, Dvorak has been able to make folk music come alive for young and veteran listeners alike! This performance will be part of the annual Mid-Winter Singing and Folk Festival.
Saturday, Feb. 15 - The Storytellers
In an effort to bring cultural, world music to audiences of all ages, The Storytellers combine interactive stories, beautiful music, humor, musical instruments and hands-on fun to create a captivating performance.
Saturday, Feb. 29 - Karen Bonnici
Incorporating physical animation, characters, stories and songs in her musical and theatrical work of storytelling, Karen Bonnici creates an interactive experience for audiences with her unique collection of traditional and original works.
ELPRA is excited to offer a lifeguarding and First Aid/CPR class this year. Upon completion, participants of the class will receive a certificate from the American Red Cross in lifeguarding or First Aid/CPR, which is good for two years.
The lifeguarding class will be held on Sundays from 4-8 p.m. beginning Jan. 26. The class will end on March 22 and there will be no class on Feb. 16 and March 1. Participants are required to attend all of the classes in order to pass the course. The First Aid/CPR class will be held on Sunday, Feb. 2 from 3-8 p.m.
