Neighborhood Grant Application Due January 20
Our Neighborhood Grant application is now available in English, Spanish, and Chinese! Through our Neighborhood Grant, Citizens Committee awards micro-grants of up to $3,000 to resident-led groups to work on community and school projects throughout the city. We prioritize groups based in low-income neighborhoods and Title I public schools. Neighborhood Grants fund everything from arts programs to tenant organizing to community gardens. Check out past grantees to get inspiration and ideas. These grants are for volunteer-led projects that address issues which communities deem important to them. 

Attend a grant information session to learn about the application process and have your questions answered. Visit our website for more info sessions.

If you are a 2017, 2018 or 2019 grant recipient and have not submitted a final report, please do so as soon as possible! You are ineligible for future grants from Citizens Committee if you haven't submitted a final report.

Neighborhood Leadership Institute
Want to increase the impact of your community building project or pick up skills to start a community organizing campaign with your neighbors? Join Citizens Committee for our Neighborhood Leadership Institute (NLI). NLI is a free, participatory workshop series that teaches organizing and advocacy skills. Anyone who attends at least 4 sessions (including the Basics of Community Organizing workshop) will receive an NLI Certificate. 

February 8: Basics of Community Organizing | Bring neighbors together to work on issues that matter to you.
February 22: Group Structure | Build and maintain an effective neighborhood association or community group.
February 29: Media Tools | Increase public support for your group by framing your message and alerting local media.
March 7: Navigating City Government | Learn how city government functions.
March 14: Grassroots Fundraising | Support your group's work with community fundraising efforts.

All workshops take place 11 AM - 3 PM in Manhattan. Lunch will be provided.

Do you know of any great community groups who would benefit from Citizens Committee’s grants and resources? Help us spread the word through our social media contest and win up to $1,000! To be entered, simply follow CCNYC on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, share the message to your followers, and tag at least three local groups doing great work that would benefit from a CCNYC grant of up to $3,000! As always, you don’t have to be a 501(c)(3) to win or to receive a CCNYC grant – block associations, tenant associations, community gardens, schools, cultural groups, and more are welcome to apply. Be sure to take part in this great chance to receive funding while also letting others know about our grant opportunities. See our website for official rules and details.

Other Grant Opportunities
Destination>Brooklyn Grant: Brooklyn Arts Council extends an invitation to Brooklyn arts organizations of all disciplines to submit a Letter of Interest for a Destination>Brooklyn grant. Destination>Brooklyn is designed to amplify the city’s appeal as a culturally vibrant destination by funding the promotion of not-for-profit arts and cultural events and programs in all five boroughs. Five $3,000 awards will be issued to selected grantees. Applications due on January 24.

The Food System Vision Prize: The Food System Vision Prize is an invitation for organizations across the globe to develop a Vision of the regenerative and nourishing food system that they aspire to create by the year 2050. The Rockefeller Foundation has partnered with SecondMuse and OpenIDEO to amplify the discourse on the state and the future of the world’s many food systems. And to empower communities globally to develop actionable solutions and become protagonists in their own food future. Creating a compelling and progressive Vision for the future of our food system requires a culture of collaboration that rallies industry, policy, academia, and society to act as one.  $2M will be distributed to the Top Visionaries, who will be eligible to receive a prize of $200,000 eachApplications due by 5 PM on January 31.

Community Events & Resources
Digital Learning Curriculum Consultant: The Octavia Project uses the creative power of speculative fiction to imagine new worlds. Our inspiration and namesake is Octavia E. Butler, who broke barriers in the traditionally white men’s world of science fiction to become an award-winning and internationally recognized author. Drawing inspiration from her practice which explores themes of racial, gender, and environmental justice, our Brooklyn teens participate in rich, interdisciplinary workshops that encourage critical thinking and build confidence by blending creative writing, art, science, and technology. We are looking for an expert in the fields of tech education, digital learning, and STEM who will work with Octavia Project staff and educators to strengthen and expand the technology portion of our summer programming curriculum. Time Commitment: 65 hours between January-September. 

Work Readiness Customer Service: WRCS is a work readiness program that equips young adults with entry-level skills such as customer service, conflict resolution, professional communication, and more. The goal is to help young adults gain and keep employment. You will also earn a certification: ServSafe Food Handler or Customer Service and Sales. The program includes 8 weeks of active programming and one year of follow up. It is broken down into 4 weeks of workshops and 4 weeks of assisted job search and placement. Attend an info session on January 8 or January 15, 2 PM, 555 Broome Street, New York, NY 10013.

Community Visioning: The Community Visioning Cohort is a learning community for park groups selected to participate in a five-part training series that prepares them to lead participatory activities and surveys within their community to uncover priorities for their local parks and advocate for those priorities. Participants will develop a strategy to gather public input around one of two key areas: physical improvements to park structure and design, or park programming and events. The resulting data will be used to advocate for additional resources and investments in these parks. Participants will develop a community visioning strategy. design and lead participatory activities and surveys, and gather useful input from a diverse cross section of their community. Applications due by January 10.

Conscious Clotheskeeping Workshop: The Conscious Closet Author Elizabeth Cline tells all about caring for your clothes sustainably. Learn about modern textiles in garments today and how to choose them well. Learn how to clean and maintain your loved clothes sustainably to make them last. Remade in Brooklyn is so excited to bring this information-packed evening with Elizabeth to you! It will change how you love your clothes. Fix It Friday: Join letgo and Remade in Brooklyn for a workshop that’ll show you how to transform your furniture with DIY reupholstery skills! Whether you’ve always wanted to upcycle a thrifted treasure or you’re ready to fix up a favorite you’ve had for years, this event will give you the skills you need to get started and design a beautiful, unique creation of your own. Introduction to Fiscal Sponsorship: For those who aim to make a difference in their community, but are worried about the responsibility of operating a full-fledged nonprofit organization, fiscal sponsorship can be a compelling alternative to explore, or a helpful stepping stone on the way to forming a nonprofit.
