January 7, 2020
Dear ISL Families,
Welcome back to school. I hope everyone enjoyed their holiday. January 6 was the official launch of the carnival season. There are traditions such as King Cake or Galette de rois (my preference) that, while delicious, can become disruptive to our routines.
Here are ISL’s King Cake Rules:
-
Teachers will contact you if they want to participate in this tradition in their classrooms.
-
Please no surprise King Cakes. Participation in this tradition MUST be at the request of your child's teacher.
-
Cakes may only be enjoyed one time per week, such as during Fun Friday
-
Catalian and Benjamin must be notified 24 hours in advance by the homeroom teacher if parents will be dropping off King Cakes.
Please remember that the school does not provide a knife to cut the cake, or napkins and plates, so please make sure that if you are providing the cake you are providing these things too.
Carnival is an important tradition for this region, however we understand that this may not be a tradition in which everyone participates. If you have any questions or concerns about this please do not hesitate to contact your child’s homeroom teacher/ advisor or me.
Best,
Ms. Rosa Alvarado.

Dear Parent/Guardian,
ISL will begin accepting applications for the 2020-2021 school year on November 22, 2019. Please remember that sibling preference is available to siblings of currently enrolled ISL students whose application is submitted by the deadline and who apply to the campus in which the current sibling is enrolled (Uptown siblings applying for K-2 can choose to apply to Dixon and/or West Bank Campus.). The deadline to apply for
K-1st grade is January 31, 2020. Application deadline for 2nd-8th is January 15, 2020.
* Sibling preference will be granted only if the current ISL student attends ISL for the 2020-2021 school year.

- Please make sure to link the current ISL student to the sibling so that the child receives sibling preference.
- Prospective candidates must rank ISL as their first choice to receive Sibling Preference.
- ISL does not have a wait list. Once families are notified of placement, it is assumed they will accept the placement.
- Prospective students in Grades 2nd through 8th will be admitted only if they are appropriately experienced in their language of study and successfully pass an entrance exam in the target language (French or Spanish).
