Funding: Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships (SURF)
These fellowships allow eligible Carolina undergraduates to receive up to $3,000 to carry out original research for at least nine weeks during the summer under the supervision of a faculty research advisor. SURF Peer Writing Advisors are available by appointment to assist with application and proposal revision. These advisors are former SURF recipients who have received specialized training from the Writing Center. Applications are due February 1.

Funding: Summer Award for Research Intensive Courses
The Summer Award for Research-Intensive Courses is a tuition award offered for students to enroll in research-intensive courses during the summer (Maymester, Summer Session I & II). The award covers in-state tuition for a three-hour research-intensive course for the student and also provides a $1000 stipend for faculty teaching the mentored undergraduate research course. Eligible research-intensive courses must involve faculty-to-student, one-on-one mentorship. For more information, click here.

Funding/Opportunity: Apply to be a UNC McNair Scholar
The Ronald E. McNair Post Baccalaureate Achievement Program is a federal TRiO program designed to prepare undergraduate students for doctoral studies through involvement in research and other scholarly activities. The mission of the McNair Program is to provide underrepresented students, as well as students from low-income and first-generation backgrounds, with the preparation needed to succeed in graduate school. Scholars receive up to $5,000 to complete a summer research program and are expected to apply to graduate programs.

Opportunity: Introduction to Diversity in Doctoral Education and Scholarship (IDDEAS@Wharton)
Explore the possibility of a PhD in business! This two-day program seeks to attract a diverse group of promising undergraduate students and introduce them to business research at the doctoral level. Created in 2012, IDDEAS is funded by Wharton Doctoral Programs and the Office of the Dean of the Wharton School. Ideal candidates for IDDEAS Scholars are current college sophomores, juniors, or seniors with strong quantitative skills and academic records. Candidates must provide a strong academic recommendation from an advisor or faculty member knowledgeable about their experience or interest in research and/or teaching. Opportunity: Johns Hopkins National Undergraduate Humanities Research Symposium.
Johns Hopkins University’s first annual Richard Macksey National Undergraduate Humanities Research Symposium will be a new annual two-day event in Baltimore, Maryland. It will offer students across the country the chance to disseminate their humanities research on a national scale.The event will be April 3-4.
This symposium is open to 400 undergraduate students who would like to present their original scholarship in the humanities. A select number of travel grants are available. In addition to student papers, presentations, and original creative works, the event will offer multiple professional development panels. Pulitzer Prize-winning author Anthony Doerr will offer a keynote. Students studying all areas of the humanities are invited to participate. The deadline for applications is March 6. Learn more here.

 Opportunity: Mingma Norbu Sherpa Fellowship
The Mingma Norbu Sherpa Fellowship will provide a $1,900 award to support field study and engaged research in environmental areas at field sites, preferably abroad. Eligible applicants must be an undergraduate or graduate student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill continuing their studies at UNC-Chapel Hill in the semester following their fellowship.

Opportunity: Davis Projects for Peace
Undergraduate students are invited to design grassroots projects as part of Davis Projects for Peace which they will implement during the summer of 2020. Davis Projects for Peace selects 100 projects judged to be the most promising and feasible and funds them, providing $10,000 for each project.
