Happy New Year! I hope it’s begun well for you.
A quick note regarding what to expect from me in 2020.
Firstly, as a token of my appreciation, I’m preparing an e-book of short stories which will be free for all newsletter subscribers. I hope to have it ready for 2nd February – because something special is called for on a palindromic date (02.02.2020 reads the same forward and back) – but, as it’s my first foray into self-publishing, it might be a movable feast.
Secondly, if you prefer your reading in print, I’m working towards publishing my next novel, Matilda Windsor Is Coming Home, about a brother and sister separated for fifty years against the backdrop of the longstay psychiatric hospital closures in the late 1980s to 90s. You’ll have the chance to win one of three signed copies posted to wherever you are in the world. Watch this space for forthcoming opportunities around
- choosing a name for my fictional hospital (the winner will be the one I like best)
- sharing your favourite novels about mental health (the winner will be selected at random)
- three words on what 1989 means to you (the winner will be randomly selected, so there’s no need to spend hours poring over the dictionary)

To fit in all these goodies, I’ll need to send out my newsletter more often than the 3 to 4 times a year I originally intended. I hope that’s okay with you. I aim to send shorter and more focused emails to make it easier for you to decide whether or not you want to read on.
