Gloucestershire Golf Union

E-Bulletin -  January 2020

This month's contents:

Happy New Year to all of our readers from the team at Gloucestershire Golf Union! May 2020 be a prosperous year for your golf game. We are looking forward to a new season of golf starting very soon.

England Golf Captains

Golf Club Captains are reminded that they can be part of the England Golf Captains programme.

The aim of the England Golf Captains programme is to recognise the efforts of existing and past captains through a number of exclusive benefits as well as to carry the experience of Captaincy beyond their special year of election. For many, this is an opportunity to provide extra support for their club or county over the year of their captaincy. For full membership details please visit the England Golf Captains' website.

In addition, in Gloucestershire we have approx 200+ active members eligible to take part in the exclusive ‘Ralph Crisp Chalice’ golfing event which affords the winner automatic qualification to the England Golf Captains Grand Final played later in the year. This year the event will take place at Minchinhampton GC on Thursday 25 June.

How to play at County Level

Ever wondered how to play for Gloucestershire? Grabbing the attention of our County Team Managers can be summed up very easily… play as well as you can in as many of our County Ranking events as possible!

Each year, there are over 70 events that form part of our County Ranking system, ranging from Junior Opens at each of our clubs, to International Open events at Men’s level where the very best amateurs in the world are competing.

We record the scores of all Gloucestershire Golf Union-qualified players at these events, and use that information to support our selections. We publish the data we are using to support our selections on the County Stroke Average pages.

Two Gloucestershire players play for England

Attention focuses on two of Gloucestershire's players who have been selected to play for the England team.

Gloucestershire's Joe Long will be heading to South Africa to compete at the African Amateur Championship, South African Stroke Play Championship, South African Amateur Championship and Cape Province Open on consecutive weeks throughout February. Read the press release here.

Gloucestershire's Joe Harvey recently took part in the Costa Ballena Octagonal International Challenge in Spain as part of a six-person team. England’s resilient men’s squad splashed their way to success at a rain-soaked Costa Ballena with a dramatic and deserved 5-4 win against Ireland. Congratulations to Joe and the rest of his team! Read the press release here.
