The Kid

Most likely everyone has heard of (or knows) this year's Junior Club Champion Coby Carruthers. He hits practice balls at his local park every afternoon (much to the local council's annoyance), and lives and breathes the game of golf.

This week Coby competed in the Jack Newton Junior Golf Harvey Norman Sydney Week of Golf which was held at five quality Sydney golf courses; Twin Creeks, Castle Hill, Avondale, Bankstown and Muirfield. With scratch rounds of 73, 74, 73, 74 and 75 respectively, and finishing outright 3rd in his age group and 8th overall, it was a tremendous effort by a young man known as “The Kid”

Wearing the Leonay logo proudly on his chest in every round of the tournament, Coby mixed it with juniors from clubs such as The Australian, NSW, Bonnie Doon, Concord, St Michaels and Monash to name but a few. Coby had a goal at the beginning of the week - a Top 10 finish - something he well and truly smashed.

Coby has also been selected to represent the club in this year’s Major Pennant team. All the hard work, dedication and commitment is paying off for young Coby. Go get 'em Kid, and as the Kid would say, 'Go the Nay!"

Coby is a credit to his parents, family and friends, and of course, Leonay Golf Club, so if you see him out on the course or in the club make sure give him your encouragement.

2020 Ladies Competition

To our regular group of Wednesday Warriors, the battles commence again on Wednesday the 29th of February. The ladies have a break from competition golf over the hotter months but will be itching to get back into it, and this is the date that their competitions will recommence.

We look forward to seeing you out there.
The Longest Day

While 18 holes can be a struggle for most of us. on Monday the 16th of December four of our members took part in The Longest Day, which is a fundraising event where they had to play 72 holes (yes - four rounds) at Leonay in one day. Calling themselves 'The Nailers', Dean Watson (31, 40, 34 and 30), Scott McLaughlin (27, 27, 30, and 31), Shane 'Harry' Anderson (26, 30, 37 and 29) and Steve Mallard (27 32, 44 and 34) started their first round at 5.30am and finished their fourth and final round some time just before 6.00pm.

Through generous support from friends and family, along with some corporate backing from Kerfoot Electrical, Thurston Signs, Wideline Windows & Doors and Toyota Material Handling Australia, the boys were able to raise over $2500 (see here for current total (and feel free to add to it)) which goes directly to the Cancer Council. Other social teams were also out there on the day raising money, and the Ben and Kevin in the Proshop must also be mentioned for accommodating the event - no small task.

Well done gents. You deserve medals just for putting up with each other for that long, but next year let's try it without carts OK?

Sign Your Card

At the end of a competition it's imperative that your score card is signed, both by you as the player and also by your marker. If either of these two signatures are missing the card and results cannot be accepted, meaning your score would be changed to 'No Card Returned (NCR).

Unfortunately in recent times we have seen members eligible to win either an event or a prize, but with their card missing either one or both signatures they've had to forfeit this result. Remember - it is up to you to ensure your score card has both signatures prior to it being placed in the Score Card Box next to the Score Entry Kiosk.

It seems like a very short time ago that the 2019 Last Man Standing Event was held, but the time has come again for qualifying to commence. This year the Match Committee have decided to open LMS up to the Ladies as well. The same qualifying rules apply for everyone;
  • $30 entry fee (only rounds after this has been paid are eligible)
  • Only competition scores from Thursday and Saturday are eligible.
The qualifying period starts from Saturday the 1st of February, and concludes on Thursday the 26th of September. The $30 entry fee can be paid to the Proshop or the Committee, but as above, it must be paid prior to any potential qualifying rounds.
