Designed by the province of Nova Scotia in 2014, ICEAP Nova Scotia Inc. is a language centre located in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, and on the Cape Breton University campus in Sydney, Nova Scotia. The centre offers English for Academic Preparation to international students who wish to enter university, but lack the required English proficiency.
ICEAP Nova Scotia Inc. offers courses in 8-week sessions year round at 8 different levels of instruction tailored to meet individual student needs, In addition, ICEAP Nova Scotia Inc. offers cultural orientation for their students with small class sizes of 15-16 students to create a comfortable and effective learning environment.

New Micro-Loan Pilot Program to Benefit Cape Breton – Unama’ki Female Entrepreneurs
|

|
The Cape Breton Partnership and Sydney Credit Union have joined together to offer a new and exciting pilot micro-lending program for female entrepreneurs. Under the Micro-Loan Pilot Program, female entrepreneurs from across Cape Breton – Unama’ki will be eligible to apply for a loan of up to $10,000. The pilot began today, January 16, 2020 and will run for three months or until the program funds of $100,000 provided by the Sydney Credit Union are allocated. Read more here.

Cape Breton Partnership’s Labour Market Development & Immigration Officer, Omar Tag El-Din, was one of 16 award recipients of the 2020 Most Inspiring Immigrants in the Maritimes award, an acknowledgement that celebrates Canadian immigrants who stand out in their towns and cities across the region. Omar Tag El-Din was the only recipient from Cape Breton – Unama’ki.

Mashup LAB's Dream Business Program - Pitch Night

On December 11th, the Cape Breton Partnership gathered with Mashup LAB and community members at Membertou Heritage Park for a celebration of new entrepreneurs in Cape Breton. The event gave these new entrepreneurs the opportunity to pitch their businesses to a crowd - congratulations to all participants. Helping Entrepreneurs in Every Stage of Development
The Cape Breton Partnership has launched a one-stop online shop to give aspiring and existing Cape Breton entrepreneurs tools and resources needed to navigate next steps of every stage of a business cycle.
Visitors to entrepreneurcb.com can learn about programs and service providers around Cape Breton on a host of topics including product or service development; access to financing; franchising; permits and licensing; tax advice; skills training; sales and marketing; and export services.
The resources will help non-profits, social enterprises, charities and traditional for-profit businesses.

Province Partners with Cape Breton Municipalities to Cut Red Tape
|
|
|
Businesses in Cape Breton will soon have less red tape to deal with, thanks to a pilot project that will help modernize and align regulations across the island.
Together, the municipalities and the province will work to identify specific areas where regulatory approaches can be aligned. The project will also include customer service training for Cape Breton inspectors, putting bylaws online to make them more accessible to businesses across the island and aligning land use bylaws.

Minister's Entrepreneurship Award of Excellence

Nova Scotia Education and Early Childhood Development has partnered with the Business Education Council to recognize students in grades 6 through 12 who show an interest in entrepreneurship. Three winners of the Minister’s Entrepreneurship Award of Excellence will receive a $1,000 grant and mentorship to help them start or grow their business. Deadline to apply is February 28, 2020. The Cape Breton Partnership and Sydney Credit Union will work together to offer micro-loans while providing support and guidance to female entrepreneurs, using an approach based on Annapolis Investments in Rural Opportunity (AIRO – http://ruralopportunity.com/ ). Recent research conducted on female and Indigenous female entrepreneurs in Cape Breton by both the Cape Breton Partnership and Cape Breton Voices indicated that access to funding is one of the greatest challenges Cape Breton women face.
