Happy New Year!  As you start 2020, you may be considering ways to focus on living healthier -- exercising regularly, eating better, and making routine doctor’s appointments.  And what about your financial health?  When is the last time your wallet and financial accounts got a checkup?

Our finances can make or break us in many cases, so having an awareness of where we stand financially is critical.  Self-Help has partnered with BALANCE, a nationally-recognized organization that provides financial education resources, to give our members and their families access to great financial tools and money management tips.  Try the self-guided modules found on their website, watch the videos, use the handy calculators or call to speak with one of their live counselors.

When calling a counselor, just mention that you’re a member of Self-Help Federal Credit Union.  The service is free to members and their families.

Here are just some of the topics that this service can help you address:
•    Rebuilding after a financial crisis
•    Financial first aid
•    Smart tax planning
•    Credit matters
•    Finances for college students
•    Repaying student loans
•    Road to homeownership
•    Basics of Investing
•    Buying your first car

Visit the BALANCE website to get started!  Call Balance at 888.456.2227 to speak with a counselor for free (mention that you’re a Self-Help Federal Credit Union member).
Make Bite-Size Money Goals

The farther away a goal seems, and the less sure we are about when it will happen, the more likely we are to give up.  So in addition to focusing on big goals (say, buying a home), aim to also set smaller, short-term goals along the way that will reap quicker results – like saving some money each week in order to take a trip in six months, or saving up for those back-to-school expenses that can sneak up on us at the end of the summer.

Take the next step towards financial success.  Why not schedule a financial check-up with one of our BALANCE financial coaches.  It’s free to all Self-Help Federal members and families. Learn more here.
