The project's fifth transnational meeting was hosted by Inholland University of Applied Sciences in The Hague in The Netherlands, on the 26th and 27th of September 2019. The meeting was chaired by Prof. Dr. Kevin Burden and the agenda consisted of a range of issues regarding the progress of the DEIMP-project. Regarding to the intellectual outputs of the project the team discussed the development of the app, which can be downloaded from the Google Playstore and the Apple App store. The app has been integrated in the online course, another intellectual output of the project. The second run of the online course, starting in October, was also a topic during the meeting. Highlighted during the meeting was the intellectual output of the case studies, developed by teachers from the DEIMP partner schools. The case studies are important in the project, not only because they provide case descriptions of innovative mobile learning scenarios but these can also lead to valuable insights into the process of designing these scenarios.
Also on the agenda were the preparations for the Learning and Training Event (LTTE) in Cyprusin April and further activities to complete the academic output of the project in 2020.
Thanks to effective chairing and the kind hosting of this event by the local partners of the Centre of Teaching, Learning & Technology of Inholland, Jeroen Bottema, Marjan Faber & Gerton Cazemier, we experienced another effective, efficient and pleasant meeting.

DEIMP partners disseminated project results in collaboration with European Schoolnet
In June 2019 DEIMP project coordinator and partner Kevin Burden & Matthew Kearney shared their research-based insights on approaches to and design principles for innovative mobile learning at ITE Forum, one of the activities of theEU project ITELab (Initial Teachers Education Lab, an initiative of European Schoolnet, a pan-European network of 34 Ministries of Education. Then in November Ton Koenraad, on behalf of DEIMP partner TELLConsult, contributed to the final TEACHMEET session of ‘The Networked Teacher – Teaching in the 21st Century’ MOOC for pre- and inservice teachers, provided by the European Schoolnet Academy. Profs. Kevin Burden and Matthew Kearney contributed a workshop on DEIMP research and other results to the 2019 mLearn Conference And since this event (for a detailed description of the workshop see this page) was part of the EC-TEL conference, taking place in Delft (Netherlands) this time, DEIMP Dutch partners inHolland University and TELLConsult used the opportunity to attend and contribute a presentation on the design of the autumn run of DEIMP’s 2019 online course and a brief video impression of the workshop respectively.
Teacher trainer event at Inholland faculty of Education & Innovation October 17th
On October 17th 2019 Jeroen Bottema presented at the teacher trainer conference of the faculty of Education & Innovation of Inholland University of Applied Sciences. In a workshop format Jeroen first presented the DEIMP-project and the results of the exploratory research about how teachers of the partnerschools used mobile technology for teaching and learning. Together with the participants Jeroen discussed the concept of innovative mobile pedagogies. What makes the use of mobile devices innovative? In peer groups participants scored three examples of mobile pedagogies based on criteria for innovative pedagogies. Consequences for the curriculum in teacher trainer program and guidance of student teachers were also discussed. Presentation (in Dutch).
TELLConsult at EUROCALL 2019 Conference
On behalf of TELLConsult Ton Koenraad presented realised DEIMP results at the annual EUROCALL conference, this year in Belgium. TELLConsult International ErasmusPlus course on m-learning
A TELLConsult tutor team ran an edition of the Course #9 ' Using mobile devices effectively to innovate learning and teaching in your subject & school’ for an international audience of secondary and primary teachers in Amsterdam in October 2019.
Ton Koenraad introduced the iPAC and DEIMP principles for designing mobile learning scenarios. Other TELLConsult tutors Joe Dale, Gerton Cazemier (inHolland) and Suzanne Lustenhouwer contributed on various topics including mobile apps for specific purposes (e.g. collaboration, content curation and podcasting), location-based learning and supporting implementation of mlearning at school level.

DEIMP National Multiplier Events in 2019
DEIMP partner PXL university organised its second national multiplier event. The Belgian multiplier event took place on Wednesday, October 4 2019 in Hogeschool PXL, Hasselt, Belgium. It was an interesting meeting with a very motivated group of teachers. We discussed the progress of the DEIMP project and we did an exercise on the 21 innovative principles for mobile learning. After that, three participants who successfully completed the first pilot of the online course presented their lesson scenario to the group.

CARDET’s Multiplier Event in Cyprus
The 2nd Multiplier Event of the DEIMP project took place in Nicosia, Cyprus on October 2 at the public elementary school Engomis B. The facilitator presented the DEIMP project, its objectives and available material for the teachers to use in their classrooms.
Specifically, the DEIMP mobile application was demonstrated and teachers were encouraged to download it to their smartphone devices (IOS and android devices) and interact with it. Additionally, information about the MOOC was presented and the benefits of participating to this online program were explained in detail. Some hands-on activities also followed so that participants get to know the outputs of the project better and be able to use them instantly. Also, some preliminary information about the upcoming Learning Teaching and Training Event that will take place in Nicosia next March was announced. Participants were pleased with the outputs of the DEIMP project and express their interest to use the mobile applications and participate in the course in due time.
Multiplier event at Inholland University
On September 25th Inholland University of Applied Sciences organized the second DEIMP multiplier event in The Hague. Fifteen teachers of partnerschools in primary education, teacher educators and researchers applied for this mini-conference about the innovative use of mobile technology for teaching and learning. Jeroen Bottema presented an overview of the preliminary results of the research-project. He presented the findings of the scoping study which identified 21 innovative principles for mobile learning, clustered into five groups (authenticity, mobility, student choice, adaptivity, and collaboration) which can be used by educators to design innovative mobile learning activities.
To support teachers in developing innovative mobile pedagogies using these principles a teacher development approach was developed consisting of a mobile app and an online course. Jeroen presented the first prototype of the online course and the rationale behind it.
Katinka Koster, teacher of De Triangel in Delfgauw, one of the parnerschools, presented her mobile learning scenario which she developed during the first run of the online course.
After this, participants could join one of two workshops
Gerton Cazemier organized a workshop about how you can develop an authentic learning experience for learners, using the app ActionBound. Participants used their mobile devices in the neighborhood of the university for a location-based guided tour with all kinds of assignments.
In another workshop Jeroen explored the complexity of teacher professional development with technology. How do teachers develop their technological pedagogical content knowledge so they can utilize all the exiting affordances of (mobile) technology for teaching and learning?
The multiplier-event ended with the kick-off of the online course where most teachers that attended the multiplier will participate in, developing new innovative learning scenarios for mobile devices.
It was another successful multiplier event, where teachers, teacher educators and researchers could share their ideas about the use of mobile technology in the classroom. For another, brief report including more photo impressions see this blogpost

Update on other DEIMP Output developments
The MOOC
After the first run of the DEIMP online course (MOOC) in the first half of 2019, the second run of the course started in October and will finish early February. A community of 35 participants, consisting of teachers from partner schools and other interested educators, and 12 coaches worked together on creating innovative mobile learning scenarios. In the online course participants were introduced to the DEIMP-app. In the next newsletter results of the online course will be shared. Participants will upload their learnnig scenarios through the app. The course is still open to all teachers who want to learn about innovative use of mobile technology, so we invite you to have a look.
DEIMP Mobile App
The DEIMP app is a multi-purpose mobile app that will support educators and pre-service teachers in designing and evaluating creative and innovative learning episodes for their students. The mobile application will be used to identify and design original and transformational mobile learning scenarios across various contexts (e.g., in formal spaces, in outdoor spaces, etc.), and to collect data in situ to evaluate the impact of these scenarios on learners in teacher education and in schools.
It will be used by teacher educators with their pre-service teachers and by teachers in schools in order to expand their repertoire of mobile learning designs. With the feedback from first users, MOOC participants and the DEIMP partners the mobile application developers, designers and educators at CARDET have managed to publish an updated free public Beta version of the DEIMP Mobile Application can download from theGoogle Playstore and in theApp Store. You can also use thebrowser version of the app.

DEIMP school teachers meet at job shadowing event in UK
The Olive Tree Primary school in Bolton (UK) hosted a 3-day job shadowing event for four colleagues of the Dutch DEIMP network schools consortium OCTANT. Two observed classroom practices reported by the consortiumiCoach, @LianGielisse, involved using @Showbie which was most positively assessed as giving a good balance between writing and showing the added value of Ipad and pupils writing their lessons in their notebook, take a picture of it via an app on their IPad which can then be provided with written and even spoken feedback by the teacher.
Through weekly trainings in the field of giving feedback in combination with the IPad, this is done at this school in a very effective and structured way. This ensures a high level of pupil engagement and because the IPads are taken home daily the parents can also follow the development of their child very well.
TELLConsult partners Ton Koenraad and Suzanne Lustenhouwer were invited by the Joint Computer Mediated Communication & Mobile Assisted Language Learning EUROCALL Special Interest Groups to run a Webinar on general and discipline specific design frameworks for mobile (language) learning and related teacher training resources.The event is planned for 20th March 2020
The School of Education, NUI in Galway was kind enough to host another DEIMP transnational project Meeting (the final one) on May 27th & 28th (Wednesday, Thursday) 2020 at its premises.
The 6th MiTE Conference (International Conference on Mobile Technology in Teacher Education), to which the DEIMP project team submitted a proposal for a symposium, will be held on Friday & Saturday (29th & 30th May, 2020)
