Message from Leadership
ImagiNation,

On Friday we hosted our first event in the Imagine Performing Arts Center (IPAC), Kingfisher Conversations.  This is a time for stakeholders to visit informally with school leadership and learn more about what is happening at school.  We are so excited to have this space and look forward to many wonderful experiences in the IPAC.

We would like to extend a  huge congratulations to Matt Kinnaird who just received his National Board Certification in Adolescence and Young Adulthood in Physics!  He joins a growing group of educators at IC Imagine who have achieved this status.

Welcome back to school!

Open Enrollment for the 2020-2021 School Year began January 1st. Prospective families are encouraged to fill out the application and check us out by taking a tour or attending an Enrollment Interest Meeting. Our current families are our best marketing tool, spread the word and tell your friends to apply! You do not need to apply for enrollment if your child is currently enrolled. However, you will need to apply if you have a new sibling seeking enrollment at IC Imagine.

We are offering shadow experiences for prospective 9th Grade students. The sign-up for those mornings and the tour sign-up can be found on the Enrollment section of the website.

Now is the time to display your yard sign, if you have one! If you live in a highly visible area and would be willing to display a yard sign, please stop by the front desk and ask for one! We appreciate your help with marketing our awesome school to the community!

Sports Physicals - Schedule Today!

Lower School

We loved seeing all of our lower school students' smiling faces as we welcomed them back from winter break and are so excited for all that is to come! Winter and Spring will bring more grade level performances, Reading Under the Stars, our Scholastic Book Fair, Science Night and so much more! Check out our most recent newsletter for more information about what’s going on in Lower School!

Middle School

Happy New Year Middle School Parents,

Middle School students are quickly getting back into the routine of school here at 110 Champion Way. Students in middle school will soon start preparing for student led conferences, which are scheduled for February 11 and February 13. Students will walk parents through their schedule and share what is happening in each of their classes through a portfolio. This process provides opportunities for students to prepare and reflect on the learning process. Student led conferences encourage students to take responsibility for their learning through their involvement in the process. The conferences also engage families in a richer dialogue than a typical parent teacher conference. This video is a great example of what to expect from our middle school student led conferences. All middle school parents, please mark your calendars and be on the lookout for sign-ups.

Upper  School

College Acceptances

We are excited to see some of our students have begun receiving acceptance letters from colleges they have applied to.  Although many are still waiting for decisions from various schools, this is an exciting time of year for our seniors! We will continue to update this list as we learn more.  As of this week, our seniors have gotten acceptance letters from the following schools:

Appalachian State University -  UNC Charlotte

East Tennessee State University

Gordon College - Lenoir-Rhyne College - Liberty University

Guilford College - Radford College

SCOIR

We are pleased to announce that we are introducing a new system called SCOIR for our upper school families to help parents and students navigate the college selection and application process.  As a parent, this program will allow you to see your student’s profile, college list, conduct your own college searches, and suggest colleges for your student to consider. SCOIR also provides parents with financial tools so that you can get a better sense of the cost of attendance at various colleges during the selection process. We are excited to be able to provide SCOIR to our upper school students and families, and we feel confident that it will help streamline the college application process.

UNC Charlotte Field Trip 10/24

On October 24th, our 11th and 12th graders had an opportunity to spend the day touring UNC Charlotte. They had a presentation with an admissions counselor, asked questions to a UNCC student panel, did a walking tour of campus, and then ate lunch in UNCC’s brand new dining hall (all of the student’s favorite part)!

Fine Arts

Supporting the Fine Arts:

Our Fine Arts department serves every student in our school, K-12.  We are excited to offer a wide variety of programming but we do need funds to support our students, teachers, and activities.  Here’s how you can help support the Fine Arts department and ALL of our Champions!

  • We are partnering with iDaph Timing and Events to help staff the Biltmore Marathon on March 21 and 22.  Please check your calendars and be on the lookout for sign up sheets to volunteer for this fundraising opportunity!

  • The 2nd annual Kingfisher Derby is on the horizon!  Mark your calendars for Saturday, May 2 and plan to join us for a gala celebrating the arts featuring a live and silent auction with all proceeds benefiting our new Performing Arts Center.

  • We have to opportunity to staff concession stands at the Civic Center for different events throughout the year.  A portion of the proceeds from the stand and all tips collected are donated back to the school. Please sign up here if you are able to help!

Upcoming Fine Arts Events:

  • January 13: Spring Musical auditions (Upper School only)

  • January 14: Spring Musical auditions (Middle School only)

  • January 15: Spring Musical auditions (4th/5th Grade only)

Fine Arts Happenings:

Imagine Performing Arts Center

We have seats in the Performing Arts Center!  There is still ongoing construction as carpet installation is completed and audio equipment installed, but we are very close to being able to use the space and can’t wait for everyone to see it!

Thank you!

Huge thank you to everyone that donated to Mrs. Mayberry’s Donors Choose project back in the fall!  We now have a class set of ukuleles for our Lower School students and our fifth graders have been hard at work learning how to tune the ukuleles and exploring their first song using that uses open strings and a chord.

Spring Musical

Kingfisher Theatre is pleased to announce the audition dates for the 2019-2020 Spring Musical...WILLY WONKA!  All auditions will be held from 3:45 until 5:45pm on the following dates:

Upper School - Monday, January 13

Middle School - Tuesday, January 14

Lower School (4th and 5th grades ONLY*) - Wednesday, January 15th

* Please note that K-3 students WILL be allowed to participate in the musical, but will receive information for their auditions at a later date.

Students should remain in their dismissal area until 3:35pm.  Auditioners should prepare 16 measures (about 2 verses) of a song that showcases their vocal range.  Please choose a song from a Broadway musical (not WILLY WONKA) that is school appropriate. Auditioners will remain in uniform for auditions, however they need to make sure they have shoes that will allow them to comfortably complete the dancing portion of the auditions.

If students are interested in working backstage, they should still attend auditions for their grade level.  They will be released no later than 4:30pm, prior to actual auditions. There will be important information they will receive.

Show dates are:  Friday, May 8, at 7pm; and Saturday, May 9, at 2pm and 7pm.

If there are any questions, please contact Mrs. Cook (valeriecook@icimagine.org).

Athletics

IC Imagine Athletics - Shout Out to Kingfisher Basketball

December and January have been exciting months for Kingfisher basketball.  On December 10th, we hosted the very first home game for IC Imagine Basketball. While we may not have bleachers in the gym, the fans still showed up to support the Kingfishers as our middle school teams took on Asheville Christian Academy.

January 7th was the first home game after students returned from Winter Break and the cheerleaders were in the house to help pump up a packed house.  The middle school boys put on a show, winning against Carolina Day by a score of 44-8. Christian Andrews led the team in scoring with 14 points.

The Upper School Menś game turned out to be a barn burner.  The first half was back and forth, and the teams went into the break tied 22-22.  In the end, the Kingfishers held on to win by a score of 54-50 behind 26 points from Ashton Blankenship against Carolina Day who we had lost to earlier this season.

All four basketball teams have been putting in tremendous amounts of work and it shows on the court!
