Community Dinners -  Join your North Avenue neighbors for time to connect and share a potluck dinner in homes around the city. We will celebrate Epiphany together, the wise men’s visit to the Christ child. Visit www.napc.org/events for more information and to RSVP. The purpose of these gatherings is to create space for us as a church to know one another and care for one another better. Our first neighborhood gathering was a great launch with 214 North Avenue people gathered in eleven homes around the city to enjoy good food and connection. Come be part of this fellowship.  Contact Kim Goldsmith, Connections Coordinator kim@napc.org with any questions.  Sign up for a group here.
Lost and Found - Please visit the Lost and Found table in the Crossing on the third floor on Sundays, January 12 and 26 to reclaim things that belong to you.  All unclaimed items will be thrown away or donated in February.
Second Sunday - Join us, January 12 as we take time for worship, community, holy communion, and prayer. We will be led in a time of contemplative prayer by Debra Weir of Columbia Theological Seminary.

This event also serves as the winter social for our Cindy Circle community.  Cindy Circle aims to strengthen those ties between North Avenue people who find themselves in need of a support network.  If you would like to join the Cindy Circle folks at this event, please let us know by writing Cindy Circle on your connection card or emailing kim@napc.org.  That way we can reserve a space for you in the room where this group will be eating lunch together.
Membership Exploration Class - All regular visitors are invited to our next Membership Exploration Class.  This class is designed for people who are ready to join the church AND for people who would like to know more about what membership means but may not be ready to join.  It is truly an opportunity to explore North Ave.  Please join us on Saturday, February 1 for dinner in a member’s home.  At this dinner, we will have a chance to get to know one another better along with some folks who are leaders in the church.  Dinner is from 6-8 p.m, and children are welcome.  On Sundays, February 2 and 9, we will meet in the morning for breakfast at 8:30 a.m.  Then we will spend time talking more about North Avenue’s mission, vision, your questions, and what we mean when we talk about membership.  At the end of the class, on the 9th, those who are ready will have an opportunity to join the church.  Almost every class has people who do not join, so feel free to come just where you are in the process.  Email Kim Goldsmith at kim@napc.org to register.
Women's Retreat - For an army, to retreat is to “withdraw from enemy forces as a result of their superior power, or after a defeat.”  As a noun it is defined as, “an act of moving back or withdrawing.”  Originated in the Latin, “retrahere” retreat is both movement and place, a seeking of safety and a finding of safe place.

This year, the women of the church (and their friends, sisters, neighbors) are invited to retreat to the mountains for a time of relationship-building and tender care while we explore a difficult topic in an encouraging fellowship of fellow followers of Jesus.  We will be exploring forgiveness, considering it from the perspective of forgiving others, seeking forgiveness from others and forgiving ourselves.

For this topic, retreat seems like the perfect word.  In order to have space and time and energy to attend to the multiple layers and meanings of forgiveness, we need to withdraw from the forces around us that seem to overpower us, in order to be empowered by God’s Word to us.  Forgiveness begins and ends with finding our identity within the heart of God.  Come be renewed and refreshed in that identity.
