A Few Highlights From This Fall
NHCUC hosted three Forum Breakfasts including Growing the State's Healthcare Workforce, Growing New Hampshire's Small Businesses, and Supporting Caregivers in the Workplace. Hundreds of leaders from business, higher education, K-12, and the legislature attended.
Once again, NHCUC hosted the New Hampshire Reception at the New England Council Dinner in Boston. U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan was recognized as the Granite Stater of the Year, an annual award presented by NHCUC to a New Hampshire leader for their commitment to higher education in the state.
A signature project of NHCUC, New Hampshire Scholars, recognized eleven champions at the annual Breakfast of Champions in December. The statewide project encourages high school students to enroll in a rigorous curriculum ensuring they graduate college ready. More than 500 business leaders across the state reinforce this message through mentoring and collaboration with NH Scholars schools.
Nearly 1,000 underrepresented high school students attended College Access Conventions this fall. The Manchester event was hosted at Southern New Hampshire University and the Monadnock Region event was held at Keene State College. Students learned about planning for, applying to, and paying for college. Each student left feeling more confident that college is possible.
In September, NHCUC partnered with the U. S. Commercial Service, the State of New Hampshire and the Granite State District Export Council, to host nearly 20 education agents from Russia, Turkey and Azerbaijan at the International Agent Fair. The networking opportunity was a tremendous success with the potential to enhance these prospective markets for international student recruitment. Participating institutions included Keene State, New England College, Plymouth State, Rivier University, Southern NH University and UNH-Graduate School.
And lastly, NHCUC welcomed dozens of school counselors from across the country to participate in the annual Counselor Tour. Counselors spent a week touring our campuses and learning about all of the reasons why New Hampshire is a premiere study destination for their students.
