His decoys have won numerous awards at national carving competitions where the judging is based not only on the decoy’s appearance but on its ability to self-right and float correctly after being submerged in water.

Captivating portraits of birds and dogs by painter, Brenda Francis. Brenda has a remarkable track record of juried shows and awards. She works primarily in oils, and her interests tend toward family dogs, wildlife and the woodsy landscapes that surround her home.

Contemporary mixed media prints by Dawn Wilkins portray flora and fauna in a traditional format reminiscent of classic botanical lithographs, scientific illustrations, and nature studies. Her work features accurate reproductions from natural subjects that are painted and pressed, with the images preserved on silk screens, from which she creates her compositions. Colored pencil drawings that relate to her subjects are often used to complete a piece.

Zach Rapack and Ethan Rapack create ingenious constructions of fish, birds and other wildlife creatures, using unusual pieces of wood they collect while fishing the surrounding waters of their home, Apalachicola.

A selection of exquisite paintings in oil by Christine Black; an established artist known for her work in several mediums including watercolor and photography. She studied at the Boston Museum School of Fine Arts and for many years has shown her work at galleries in Nantucket and Key West. Currently she works out of her studio at Blackbird Farm, her vegetable & flower farm located on five acres in the small rural town of Micanopy, Florida. The art studio & gallery space in a restored 1929 farm house hosts several shows throughout the year.

Aquatint etchings by North Carolina artist John Furches. An etching is an original hand-pulled print made from an image that is created by cutting into a flat surface (plate). Because every print in an edition of etchings is individually hand crafted, each is considered an original. John explores his wildlife subjects in a deep inward way, achieving in his faithful renderings a subtle emotional element that is all his own.

Isaac Brooks brings us his fishes and flying birds carved out of cypress recovered from the rivers and springs near his Deadwood Studios home base in Fort White, Florida. This Mahi hangs majestically from the rafters at the gallery awaiting his forever home.

'Fishing in Common' 20x40 framed photograph by Shannon Lease. Her images are widely admired by her many friends and fans. She has a keen eye for composition and setting. There is no mistaking her insightful observations... she nails it every time.

Fine prints, notecards and orignals by Susan Richardson
A corner of the gallery is dedicated to the artwork of local favorite, Susan Richardson.
She was an early mentor and a cheerleader for the gallery; and our first show was a retrospective in her honor. Susan’s award-winning paintings cover a wide range of subjects including local people and scenes that she knew and loved in and around Apalachicola. As she would have wished, a portion of proceeds continues to be set aside for the Franklin County Humane Society, a cause she championed.

Live Oak Gallery is pleased to host the wet room and a complimentary evening reception on Saturday, May 2nd from 5 - 8 p.m. for the first of SGI Paint Out’s week-long series of events. Invited artists will spend the day painting en plein air during the annual Historic Apalachicola Home & Garden Tour. That evening, join us to view all the work from the day, mingle with the artists, and enjoy light refreshments.
