Segregated cycle line back on the cards in 2020 Lime Street upgrade

We were excited to see new details emerge about the City Council’s progress on its £47m City Centre Connectivity Scheme, which had seemed to stall during the Curchill Way flyover demolition and Old Haymarket bus station approval.

In a particularly welcome move for the city’s cyclists (and anyone who attended our October seminar on cycling in the city region) the upgrades now include a segregated cycle lane along Lime Street, which will become part of a longer cycle route reaching all the way from the Waterfront, along Tithebarn Street, and up to the universities on Brownlow Hill.

2019 Seminar videos online

It may be 2020, but it doesn’t feel like long ago that over 150 of you joined us for our October seminar series on “Playing our part in the Liverpool City Region”. With your help, we had some really eye-opening discussions around how our city faces the challenges of cycling and walking, homelessness, and regional governance.

Videos of every presentation and Q&A session are now up on our YouTube page, so feel free to catch up on any sessions you missed!

Piazza Fountain hits the national headlines

Liverpool’s beloved Piazza Fountain (or Bucket Fountain as it’s often called) made national headlines at the end December, when it was named by Historic England as one of the most significant structures listed in 2019.

Engage has been working to support residents and fans of the fountain, to see it restored and maintained well into the 2020s. If you’re interested in getting involved, drop us a line.

Engage to attend World Heritage Watch meeting in Paris

With the Everton stadium planning application on the horizon, we’ll be looking to strengthen contacts with other civil society groups in a similar position to Liverpool, and share our own experience of the challenges around development in our World Heritage Site, at the World Heritage Watch Forum on 18th–20th January.

You can find out more, and read summary articles we’ve written for the 2017–2019 World Heritage Watch annual reports, on our website.

Our events pick:

Family Weekend at the Bluecoat
