A Message From our President

Happy February fellow Soroptimist friends!
We have been off to a great start this year!
On January 11th some of us spend the morning at the local Farmers Market, sharing information on local and global Human Trafficking.

The planning for our annual Dream it, be it project is well on its way. This year SI Chico, SI Orland and SI Bidwell Rancho are planning on inviting several speakers for the sessions.

On February 8th, District 1 and 2 are trying something new! The District Winter Meeting/Presidents Round table will be done via teleconference. This is the first time this meeting has been conducted this way. SI Bidwell Rancho is having a brunch at my house, viewing the conference together. Should be a lot of fun. I always love trying something new.

Just a reminder to check the calendar on our website for updates.
If you are Facebook user scroll through some of the events/fundraisers that are put on by other clubs on the event page of the Sierra Nevada Region Facebook page. You can also follow SI Bidwell Rancho on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Wishing everyone a great February and Valentine's Day!

With gratitude Babette

44th Sierra Nevada Region Conference April 24 – 26, 2020 at the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa, Reno Nevada

Can you believe it! Conference is just around the corner. Last year was a great conference and we are striving to make this year’s conference even better. Most notable, we will vote for the officers and directors who will lead the Region in the next biennium. We will have the presentation of the Region’s business and recognitions. Our Official Visitor will be SIA Board Member Elizabeth “BJ” Gallagher. We are also fortunate to have a SIA Board Member Elect Stephanie Smith who will provide invaluable developmental sessions. We promise that Friday’s entertainment will not be a mystery; but it remains a secret for the moment.

The room block will be open on January 15, 2020. You can make your room reservations at the Atlantis by calling the Reservations Department at (800) 723-6500 and provide group code SISNR20. You can also book online by clicking here.

We are still looking for a few good sponsors. The success of our conference is dependent on securing sponsors. Please assist the Region and give us recommendations for sponsors. I received no response to the notice in the last E-Blast. The Sponsorship Packet is available here.

I will be reaching out in February to those who signed up at Fall District Meetings to help with conference. I could still use more volunteers.

If you are interested in being a sponsor at conference or helping at conference, please send me an email at snrgovelect@soroptimistsnr.org.

Here is my message to each of you, the Sierra Nevada Region is a village comprised of 55 clubs with members who are strong, talented, giving and supportive in helping women and girls in our communities and globally. I appreciate all that each member has accomplished, what you are doing now and what you will do in the future. It is all of us who make conferences successful; please help in any way you can. Get me sponsors or get me volunteers, I need both.

I look forward to having fun with all of you at Conference!

Conference Coordinator/Governor Elect

Ready for Electronic Voting?

In late February, SIA will conduct our first all-electronic mail ballot to elect our 2020-2021 president-elect. Clubs will receive an individualized authenticated link to enter the voting system to cast its vote; that link will be sent to the club’s @soroptimist.net club email address. Club presidents and club treasurers will receive notification of the ballot through their personal email addresses on file with SIA headquarters, but the authenticated link will be sent only to the club email address. If your club is not regularly accessing its @soroptimist.net club email address, please start doing so now. Instructions on using the club email system can be found on the website in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our membership services team at siahq@soroptimist.org.

Soroptimist International News

Welcome SI President Sharon Fisher
Sharon Fisher from the Federation of the Americas, took up her post as Soroptimist International President 2020 – 2021 at the official change of insignia ceremony, held in Kuala Lumpur, July 2019.

Sharon Fisher says: “It is my honour to serve Soroptimist International as we complete 100 years of global service. The value of any social movement is having everyone moving in the same direction toward common goals. The stories we can tell about our collective impact on the lives of women and girls across the globe, will find us in the company of many who are inspired to learn and support our mission. We can be the messenger that brings the complex global issues into focus and aligns them with the programme work of our Federations and clubs.

Soroptimist International of Bidwell Rancho's Calendar
Every month we will introduce a Member!
Meet Angie Little, Housing Authority of Butte County

I was born in West Covina California but left at the age of 2 weeks and moved to Chico. I spent the rest of my life in the Chico and Redding areas going to high school in Anderson. I met my husband of almost 25 years in Redding and we have three fabulous children. The youngest, 20 years old now, still lives at home and is attending Butte College. I worked at some interesting and not so interesting places, but alas could really never find my true direction. Finally, at the age of 40, I found my calling when I began working for the Housing Authority. A few years later, feeling somewhat content, I was ready to take on more, so I turned to my friends who happened to belong to this club called Soroptimist. This women’s club put on this huge event that I look forward to attending every year. I thought that it would be great fun to hang out with these funny and smart women and at the same time give back to a great cause. I turned to my friend, Yvette, and joined the club in October of 2012. The best decision ever! With the support and encouragement these women, I was soon agreeing to commit to club president. When Soroptimist talk about educating women to become leaders, that includes the club membership. This experience helped give me the tools I needed to become a leader in the work force as well. I am now a team leader at the Housing Authority. My time with SIBR has been so wonderfully memorable. Through the conferences and conventions, I have met and gotten to know incredible, admirable women, including the grant recipients. I so look forward to the many years ahead with SIBR.

SIA Club Roadmap for Success in 2019-2020
Sent by SIA to all clubs SIA’s clubs are committed to providing an engaging and meaningful, mission-based experience. But, of course, our members are busy women. And serving women and girls who face obstacles such as poverty, violence and teen pregnancylocally and throughout the worldcan be a tall order. To make it easier to accomplish our organization’s goals we have developed this simple club road map for your use. In order to provide a positive club experience while helping to build our collective impact and recognition, clubs are asked to do these five things:
  • Programs - Increase the number of women and girls your club serves by providing additional Live Your Dream Awards and holding Dream It, Be It projects.
  • Membership - Grow and retain members by creating an enjoyable and civil member experience.
  • Public Awareness - Gain greater recognition by promoting your club’s impact through our Dream Programs.
  •  Fundraising - Increase funds raised to support our brand unifying Dream Programs.
  • Future-Mobilize support of our 2021-2031 Big Goal -  Invest in the dreams of half a million women and girls through access to education. That’s it! If your club does these five simple things, we guarantee you will be providing a superior member experience, fulfilling our mission, and strengthening Soroptimist’s global brand
