New improved help for SMSC: We've been listening - some of you have told us what does and what doesn't work in SMSCnews so we've made some changes. You will find less detail but a greater focus on what we have been told will help you plan your SMSC. Scroll down for dates and resources.

Spiritual: The start of a new year gives everyone a chance for a new beginning. Or a chance to review and refocus. Why not take some time to talk to your children about the year ahead. How can they work to their full potential? How are they going to be the best that they can be? Everyone needs a little motivation at some time or another. This short video is a reminder they can all achieve…with a little self-belief.

Moral: The Christmas festivities are over, so how what is the best way to dispose of used and unwanted items? Why not discuss with the children environmentally friendly ways for disposing of your Christmas items. This may include recycling your Christmas tree, Christmas cards and unwanted toys. Keep an eye on what’s happening in your
local area and plan a recycling week with your class or even a whole school initiative. Check out the TES website for great lesson ideas and activities you can share with your class.

Social: From cyberbullying to social networking, each year Safer Internet Day aims to raise awareness of emerging online issues and chooses a topic reflecting current concerns. This year Safer Internet Day will be celebrated globally on the 11th February 2020 with the theme: Together for a better internet. The day is a great opportunity to spark a conversation about the safe and responsible use of technology, and to inspire young people to create a better internet for the future. Resource packs and lesson ideas can be found on the Safer Internet Day website.

Cultural: The Spring Festival more widely referred to as Chinese New Year is the main Chinese festival of the year. Chinese New Year falls on Saturday 25th January. Celebrations last for around fifteen days. The first week is celebrated with visits to friends and family following special traditions. Schoolworkshops.com provide exciting workshops to help bring the celebration to life.
