Making Time for Afterschool Award Nominations

APOST believes strongly in taking time to celebrate and recognize partners that continually commit to providing high quality afterschool programming for Allegheny County's youth. That is why we created the Making Time for Afterschool Awards. We encourage and welcome all of you to submit nominations to be reviewed by the selection committee. Anyone can submit a nomination, but the awards are given only to individuals and organizations that are part of the APOST Quality Campaign. Nominations will be accepted until March 13th

RML Assembly
Two fan-favorite education events are combining forces this new year! Join Remake Learning, Allegheny Intermediate Unitand transformED on January 17, 2020 for a day of hands-on STEAM exploration and a celebration of all things innovative learning at Nova Place. Stop by throughout the morning, afternoon, or evening to experience the region’s premiere STEAM learning showcase and the latest from the Remake Learning Network. The entire day is FREE and open to the public!

Afterschool Champion
Spread the word or consider submitting a nomination for one of PSAYDN's 2020 Afterschool Champion awards! The deadline for nominations is Friday, January 10, 2020Champions should demonstrate outstanding work in developing, supporting and promoting meaningful high quality afterschool/out-of-school time programs to benefit children, youth and families across Pennsylvania. Winners will be recognized during the PSAYDN Annual Meeting on Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at the Hilton in Harrisburg, PA.

New York Life Foundation: support for OST programs serving middle schoolers. Deadline: January 24th
Housing Assistance Grants: funding for operating housing assistance, including payment for rent, utilities, and related expenses. Deadline: February 3rd
RML Ignite Grants: 5K for network members as they imagine something new, build on their strengths, or re-energize their existing learning innovations. Deadline: March 13th
Staunton Farm Foundation: capacity building grants and support for 1 year. Deadline: March 31st
Governor's STEM: $500 grants to students grades 9-12 competing in STEM. Deadline: May 7-8, 2020
Society of Women Engineers: Scholarships to support women pursuing careers in engineering and computer scienceDeadline: Rolling 
Save-a-lot: sponsorships and grants for hunger relief, environmental stewardship, health and wellness, and more. Deadline: Rolling

Give your photos a voice with ChatterPix! Chatterpix can make anything talk — pets, friends, doodles, and more! Simply take any photo, draw a line to make a mouth, and record your voice. Use ChatterPix whenever you’re doing a video project with students on the “no photo” list. They can take a picture of whatever they want, record their voice and still participate.

According to an updated report from Fight Crime, juvenile crime peaks between 2-6pm, the hours immediately after school. During this time, you th are more likely to engage in risky behaviors. The report also emphasizes ways afterschool programs can partner with communities to keep kids safe and create space for building protective factors that can help youth make smart choices.
