Practice Driving Tests Available Through GCPL

The popular driver education platform Driving-Tests.org is now available for free at the Greenup County Public Libraries. Patrons can access Driving-Tests to start preparing for their DMV knowledge exam by visiting https://greenup.driving-tests.org. We are excited to add this link with the DMV to help our patrons.

The program is designed to help aspiring, as well as more experienced drivers (teenagers, newcomers, renewal applicants or senior citizens). Tests can be accessed from any computer or mobile device. Includes access to a DMV office finder, beginner driver’s guide, virtual DMV assistant, and Challenge Bank - a special test that stores the user’s wrong answers from taking practice tests.

The libraries are collaborating with the Greenup County Extension Office and the Greenup Homemakers to offer programs for homeschool families in our GCPL area. In January we will begin offering two Friday afternoon programs at the Greenup Branch:

Jan. 10 Lorna Rose will lead a winter scene painting class for all grades.
2 pm Preschool - 3rd grade
3 pm 4th grade and up

Jan. 17 the Greenup County Extension Office will be teaching two cooking classes:
2 pm Preschool - 3rd grade
3 pm 4th grade and up

To ensure enough supplies, please call to register at the Greenup Main Branch by calling (606) 473-6514 at least three days in advance.

Story Hour

Story Hour will resume in January with one time at each location for the winter/spring session: Flatwoods will resume on January 21 @ 11:30 am, Greenup on January 22 @ 11:30 am, and McKell on January 23 @ 11 am.

Please remember that we follow the Russell School schedule in Flatwoods and Greenup Schools for Greenup and McKell.

We received over 1000 pairs of underpants that will be distributed to local school resource centers as part of the Drop Your Drawers campaign. Thank you to all of our patrons for your donations! Cash donations were also accepted this year to support this program. A longtime supporter of the library offered to match donations up to $500, and that goal was met and exceeded.

Harry Potter Book Month

In celebration of Harry Potter Book Night, GCPL has planned multiple events at the Flatwoods branch throughout February.

Feb. 7 @ 6 pm - Harry Potter Craft and Trivia Night. The top three trivia winners will win a prize. Priority sign-up for the escape room will begin at this event for those in attendance.

Feb. 20 @ 6 pm - Interactive Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone: Experience the magic as you play along with props and snacks. Watch Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone with a vault of supplies: magic wands, golden snitches and wizard sweets. Adventure at Hogwarts from the comfort of the library. Costumes and wizarding attire encouraged!

Feb. 22 @ 10 am - 5 pm - Harry Potter Escape Room. All of our witches and wizards will have to work together to find the spell that will help them escape. Registration will begin on February 7 at Trivia Night. Remaining spots will be open to public on the following Monday.
