New Year, New Blog

The Ian McBlog is being launched today as a platform for new, rising voices in the field to hone their voices, sharpen their writing, and stimulate new conversations.

Today, we're launching the Ian McBlog with a singular purpose: to use the center's platform to give space to rising voices in the design disciplines to hone their ideas, sharpen their writing, and stimulate new conversations. We will run two posts per month for the rest of 2020 and our editor in-chief, James Billingsley, is now taking pitches (you can send them to mcharg@design.upenn.edu).

As a means of providing some initial content, the Center's Wilks Family Director, Billy Fleming, wrote the first post. We have nearly a dozen posts from students, recent graduates, and other rising voices within the field lined up and ready to run. An excerpt from the initial post:

"
Yet the planet is not the only thing on fire. Its people are too, ignited by the crisis climate change poses and by the promise of a Green New Deal. And because so many of us have so much to lose if we lower our sights and resign ourselves to designing a beautiful end, we aren’t afforded the luxury of proclaiming things are, indeed, worse than we think. We have no choice but to imagine that if we give everything we have, perhaps things could be much better than we think. We do not have to look far to understand why."

We hope you'll read, and join, the conversation.
