1 - What's up
2020 is the Anthony Braxton’s 75th birthday celebration (4 June 1945). There will be a lot of initiatives during this year in order to celebrate it. Are you ready? Three, two, one..go! 9 concerts with Anthony Braxton Standard Quartet (feat. Alexander Hawkings, piano; Neil Charlles, double bass and Stephen Davies, drums) during the first month of the new year. About Anthony's activities check out the Tricentric Foundation: a non-profit organization which supports the work and legacy of American composer and musician. Their primary goals are preservation and dissemination of his scores, recordings, and writings, production of performances, and pedagogy. Many other initiatives will follow all around the world;
January is a busy month also for Anna Webber and Ches Smith: Anna Webber will play at Winter Jazzfest - NYC with Clockwise Septet and at National Sawdust. Then she will tour in Europe at the end of February and beginning of March with Max Johnson (Germany, Belgium, Austria and Italy); Ches Smith, who recently won a spot in the New York City Jazz Record‘s “best concerts of 2019” for his Ches smith Quartet (Mary Halvorson, Liberty Ellman and Nick Dunston) second gig ever back in March 2019, will be at Winter Jazzfest, too. He will also have a residency at The Stone at the New School (John Zorn, artistic director) in NY, January 14-18: Highlights of that include Ches Smith/Craig Taborn/Mat Maneri with very special guest guitarist (Jan 14), Good For Cows with Kris Davis and Nels Cline (Jan 15) and traditional Haitian Vodou drums and songs (Jan 16);
The Art Ensemble of Chicago's Sixth Decade Tour will plan in Paris on February 7 at Sons d'Hiver Festival. After the closing of the celebration of 50th anniversary with an historic concert in Washington DC on last December 14, Roscoe Mitchell and Don Moye are ready for new challenges for the next decade.
That's it by now but before closing this section you should have a look at Gabriele Mitelli and Bob Mazurek playing in the sea. Litterallly.

Frederic Rzewski is preparing a new piano piece called "Humanitas" for the San Francisco pianist Sarah Cahill, in honor of Terry Riley's 85th birthday.
Anna Webber will soon release a big band record. More info on next AkaNews stay tuned!
Ches Smith with We All Break, a cross-cultural creative music formation which draws from Haitian Vodou heritage will soon record an expanded lineup featuring Miguel Zenon on alto sax, Sirene Dantor on vocals, Nick Dunston on bass, Fanfan Jean Guy Rene, Daniel Brevil, Markus Schwartz and yours truly on additional Haitian percussion.
