Welcome to the Oregon Region's
January 2020 Newsletter!

Happy New Year to all our ORUSPC members, volunteers and supporters. I hope you were able to relax over the Holidays and are refreshed and ready to go for 2020!

Our board members have been hard at work to create some wonderful regional opportunities and all calendar updates and entry forms can be found on the ORUSPC website. I would like to give a huge shout out to Patti Henderson for managing the regional website and going above and beyond to put together a calendar of events that reflects club, regional AND local non pony club opportunities in our region. You can bookmark this link (below) which will take you directly to the teamup calendar - if you are looking for certification information, contact information or entry forms, you should go to the full ORUSPC website.

2020 Convention/Symposium reimbursement:
Please send the registration receipt to OregonRegionBoard@gmail.com (subject line REIMBURSEMENT) along with a fun photo of you at the Symposium. The photo will be proof of attendance as well as a future project to encourage members to attend. So make it a good one! Something exciting in the anatomy room, a new friend from a far away club, dressed up for a banquet, maybe you met an amazing speaker, selfie at a lecture. It'd be great if you use the USPC reimbursement form and include your mailing address at the bottom. I will process these as quickly as possible in February after the event. ~Sabrina

Tracy Stout - VRS: Volunteer Coordinator

Happy New Year from your friendly Vice RS/Volunteer Coordinator! Our first rally of the year (and the decade!) is Quiz Rally on February 29th at Canyonview Camp. Even though there is no riding at Quiz Rally, we do still need several volunteers to be able to put it on. Each team is required to provide AT LEAST 2 volunteers throughout the day. If you or your child will be participating in Quiz, please plan to stay to volunteer or bring someone who will. If you are not planning to participate, you can still come by to help us put on a successful Quiz rally. Come see our members showing off all of their amazing Pony Club knowledge! There will not be a volunteer sign up sent out in advance for Quiz Rally. Just show up for the morning volunteer briefing and I'll place you in a volunteer position that suits you.

As always, feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns (oregonregionboard@gmail.com, Subject line: Volunteer Coordinator). Thanks in advance for your help!

Sabrina McDermott - Treasurer

Hello 2020! We have a year full of Events. Please be sure all payments are sent in a timely manner. We prefer to have one check sent by the Club versus multiple payments from individual members. This is easier to keep track of especially for Rallies. Please remember that PayPal charges 30 cents plus 2.2% for each transaction. Refunds are also charged 30 cents. Make sure all Region dues have been paid by all members. And continue to send in those new member forms and payments! DCs and Treasurers, lets make sure everyone is a member in good standing: All Club dues have been paid, and the member has paid for Region events. Remind members that they cannot attend Region events if Club dues are not up to date and they should not be attending Club events/lessons if they are behind. Don't forget to finalize your year end duties. The 990 and 1099s need to be done. If you have a 1099 coming to you, and have moved since your W9, please email the Region your new address. I'll be catching up on my duties this week as well. This WILL be my last year as Treasurer. If you have an interest in this position next year, please be in contact with me. Consider going to the Treasurer sessions at Convention. Ask your Club treasurer if you can shadow them. Set up a time to shadow me if you are near. Duties include banking which can be done on your phone, data entry on Google spreadsheets and Central Finance System (CFS) which is similar to Quickbooks. This position is voted on at the Fall Meeting but you would start 2021. Safe and Happy Riding in 2020!

CLUB NEWS

Highland Riders PC:  The Highland Riders celebrated the holidays with a fun day of mounted games and a barn holiday party. This month our members are prepping for Quiz Rally and setting goals for 2020. HRPC is looking forward to another great year of growth, friendship, and fun. Welcome to our newest members Rory, Avery, Mya, Kyla, and Kaellie!

Save-the-Date for Highland Riders Annual Dressage Schooling Show Fundraiser March 29th!

Fox Hills PC:  Jump For Joy 20th Anniversary!  January 25 & 26, 2020 Click here to enter: https://foxhillponyclub.weebly.com/jump-for-joy-schooling-show.html

Iron Horse Riding Academy: Iron Horse RC had a great fall with 3 members completing their C1 HM tests. Congrats Adria, Emma, and Stephanie! We have at least 2 more C1 HMs in the works for this Spring. We also welcome 5 new members: Amelia, Riley, Ainsley, Lucy, and Haley. Looking forward to a busy and fun year in 2020!

Oregon Trail PC: Oregon Trail Pony Club is off to a cracking start to 2020! First, we'd like to welcome our two newest members, Kaylie and Maddie! They and their ponies, Molly and Dilly, are a wonderful addition to our club and are jumping right in at the deep end with plans to attend quiz rally! We held our first unmounted meeting of the year, with a full house of all the members, and our unmounted instructor, Courtney, demonstrated correct bandaging techniques, followed by plenty of practicing by the members! We are excited to see what else the New Year is going to bring :)

Canterwood PC: Hello from Canterwood Pony Club in Ridgefield, WA! My name is Jessica LaPierre and I am the new DC for Canterwood. Cory Grose joins me on the board as Joint DC and Dione Schubach is our new treasurer, who is taking over for Sabrina McDermott the current ORUSPC Treasurer. We are reviewing our goals at this time and we think it is in our best interest to get some certifications done in the next 60 days. We have several new younger members who are eager to receive their D-1’s. We are very interested in implementing the USPC Badge Program to mark the successes and growth achievements that our kids accomplish. Sabrina hosted our Pony Club holiday party just before Christmas where our members had a sock exchange (boot socks all around!) and did some work with Jocelyn (the Region’s new RIC!) around setting goals for themselves. Members combed through magazines and cut out words and pictures to create vision boards detailing the kind of work they intend on keeping as their focus. Jocelyn used SMART Goals system to help them consider how they would set and achieve a measurable goal. We are all very excited to get to know one another, help our Pony Club grow and thrive, and to bring horses to a new set of kids who will develop the outrageous tenacity and focus that are associated with equestrians the world over!

Rose City PC: Hello Oregon Region!! Our small but mighty club is looking forward to a fun year of learning and camaraderie. We would like to extend an open invitation to our unmounted meetings for extra opportunities to learn and study Pony Club topics. We will likely be holding most of our meetings in the Newberg/Sherwood/Wilsonville area as well as holding some meetings at Forward Stride. Email me at ajeldred@gmail.com to get an invite to our meeting calendar.
