Our Up-coming Meeting is...

Sunday, January 12, 2020 at 1:00 pm

Stony Creek Beads, hosted by Kim West
2060 Whittaker Rd ~ Ypsilanti, MI 48197
734.544.0904
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We will have a fun project that Cyndy and Kim have put together,
a bracelet project to work on during our meeting. The materials used will be available from Stoney Creek Beads and be under $10. Members can either purchase pearls to use in it or bring their own glass beads, spacer sized or a little larger that have holes approximately 3/32 “. If members use their own glass beads all they will have to purchase is the leather cord and a button for the clasp which Kim estimates to be maybe $5.
We will also review our calendar for the year, discuss the potential upcoming shows, talk about additional planned classes, workshops and activities (Jerri Warhaftig class, Fall Retreat, Pop-up classes...). If you want a say in what's happening - come to the meeting!
A note from our President!
A goal should scare you a little and excite you a lot!
A goal without a plan is just a wish!
Happy New Year creative friends!
January 2020 is here!   A new decade filled with new opportunities, fun challenges and all things creative. I don’t know about you, but I am seeing all kinds of creative challenges on social media for 2020. I am seeing weekly creative challenges based on a theme, monthly challenges based on colors and specific materials, and challenges specifically for lampworkers from the ISGB and the beginning lampworkers facebook group. In the spirit of new challenges to develop and hon additional skills, the guild has chosen murrini as one of the challenges to kick off the new decade, and January’s challenge will be murrini from Double Helix. If you had an opportunity to see the demo by Jari Sheese last year, Jari created a hollow bead that she then covered with Double Helix Murrini that was absolutely stunning!  There were two specific tips that Jari demonstrated that I wanted to pass along
1)  Jari used a mug warmer/candle warmer to heat up the murrini pieces in preparation of adding them to the hollow bead
2)- Jari used the Japanese glass parts cutter- to slice up the rods of Double Helix, one source is
http://artcoinc.com/glass_cutters.php
These cutters are mounted at an angle to the handles offering a comfortable grip, a better line of sight and keeps your hand away from the hot glass when attaching to your bead. What tips or tricks do you use when applying murrini to a bead? How do you use murrini in your designs? I can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with for show and tell in February with this challenge!
Many thanks go out to Kim Meray and her husband Dan for hosting the Holiday Party! It was a great time and the ornament exchange was fun! The silent auction raised $754.00!            Please take the time to let Cyndy Gohsman know how much you appreciate all her efforts in getting us such great items to bid on!  Did you know she handwrites a thank you note to each and every one of our vendors that donate items for the auction?
Following is the tentative meeting and event schedule for 2020
Maybe it will be to try a new technique? Maybe it will be to take a class or two? Attend the ISGB Gathering? Hopefully, it will be to attend the guild retreat in October!
Looking forward to seeing you at Kim’s (Stoney Creek Beads) on January 12th at 1:00.
A new decade with infinite possibilities is ahead of us!
